He was in a similar position at Port Vale, highly thought of but definitely second choice, and he decided to move on in order to try to nail down a starting place.

I don't think it would make much sense for him to extend his deal with us, especially if the gaffer is considering moving for another keeper anyway.

 

O'Donnell, Hornby/another keeper, plus Darryl Ombang who's in the England youth set up...

Definitely not an easy route to first team action - and if Ombang leaves like GSK and that other lad recently, I'd be seriously questioning the club's ability to bring on and nurture talented young keepers.

You can't just hit 16/17/18 and be thrust into the first team scene, keepers take longer to develop.

The only exception I can think of wasn't even our player. Pickford. And he was the best young goalkeeper in England.

The way Leeds are going about their return to the Premier League I believe they will improve on last easing finish, if the kid does blossom into the keeper Leeds would hope he does there maybe a long wait for any sell on fee.
I'd expect Leeds to be knocking on the door for a European competition within the next two seasons.

 

Exactly if your good enough you're old enough, on the bench to give him the experiance of being around the first team players that in itself can bring a kid on, it can also finish a kid if not done properly,
We had a young keeper who at the time most thought would make the grade and play at a higher level, he let 6 in against Newcastle in an FA Cup game that was postponed several times and his career never met the expectations we'd hoped, can't remember his name any help @Park bantam, @Captain Grumpy?.

 

But as NM pointed out, “one swallow a summer does not make”.
Both players quoted may have done better this season than Cook, but over their respective careers, neither has done anything. Bearing in mind, we created very little for our towards, I’d say Cook’s contribution for us was actually better than those you quote.

 

TBF, he’s not actually told us anything that can be proven. He’s said we have 2 signings, yet the club (trying to sell STs) haven’t shouted this from the rooftops. Seems strange to me.

And, not that it’s a good yardstick, but Parker claims we are closing in on our 1st signing, as opposed to already having 2 deals done

 

Stick around for a little while longer, you’ll begin to understand.

 

David Roper, and indeed, nothing of a League career after his handful of matches for us. Was he a case of just not being ready yet for the senior game? I see he let in 5 a couple of times in his league matches. Then again, we were awful that season -- re-election level awful -- which can't be good for a young keeper's development.
