I’d have taken James Wilson here. Salford fans surprised to see him go and seems that he was played out wide during most of his appearances. 25-30 goal scorers are very rare at our level. Good age at 25 too.

 

Exactly the kind of player we would have been doing cartwheels over last summer just because he'd once been a PL protege. Then we wake up and realise he's actually crap and is in league two for a reason.

Perfect example of an over paid PL reserve who they knew wouldn't make it, had to keep to the end of his contract and farmed out whenever and wherever they could until his contract expired.

At 25 he's never going to 'realise' the potential someone saw in him at 12 and will struggle to play above league two.

 

Adams talks about a nucleus of a good sqaud, what is the full list of contracted players for this coming season? I read somewhere we also offered 3 out of contract players new deals. Where we at before signings

 

And before any sarcastic replies I've been in hospital for most of the last 3 weeks which is why I ask for the update.

Stockton. He scored 13 last season.

 

1st and only time he's ever hit anywhere near double figures though and at 27 I'm not putting my mortgage on him repeating it.

 

I think that's who will be leading our line. Could be wrong, but seems plausible.

We don't have all those players. Several got released.

 

That poster likes to go against the grain, had we signed him and people said it was a good signing they’d have said what’s he ever done except come through Uniteds academy to warrant being a good signing. Some posters are just like that.

We had 3 strikers with a better goal to game ratio last season than him and if we want to go up only Andy Cook would be good enough to retain, plus even Donaldson nearly matched Wilson’s 9 granted I’m cheating a bit and including his cup games but still.

I don’t claim to be the font of knowledge on lower league strikers, but if Wilson was leading our line I’d be confident of another poor season.

 

9 goals here, 13 there... As I posted on another thread:

"Another 20 (minimum) goals for is what we really needed. We need to add those in the coming season. Problem is, with the departures we lose 30 of the 48 goals for...so you could say that we need to add some 50 goals to the squad this summer. (Only 17 goals "stay," if you like; the other goal was an OG.) Yikes!..."

If we're looking at 70 (or so) goals wanted, then we need the non-strikers to contribute much more than they have plus some 40 or so from the (currently non-existent) strikers. This is a root-and-branch reworking of the offensive system and players, not just adding the final touch. (Finding next season's Mullin would help...)

Otherwise we're going to have to have the tightest defence we've ever seen, and 1-0 and 0-0 our way to promotion. Of course, we're a bit short on experienced defenders now, too...
