Interesting question, but I’d need more detail as to me it’s not black and white. Where do we finish in the league, and do we look competitive against those towards the top?

I expect automatic promotion from any manager that comes in for next season. We have to aim high.

Rupp has to back Adams or any manager. They have to bring their own team in and backed with funds.

Next season has to be automatic promotion whoever the manager is.

This is a fair response but it's on the supposition that promotion alone is not complete. I ask the initial question as reading bcfc related matters, it appears that Adams is the fans hopes of an upwards trajectory.

20 of the 24 teams will not be promoted next season and we've had good managers in before whom have not had success based on expectations

As long as we make a go of it he can earn credit for a second season. If we are loitering around the bottom half then a change will be required. We need stability but we also need ambition.

If we were in and around the playoffs and competitive then I’d say he’s had a season to build, add that extra bit of quality needed and get us promoted. If we are mid table at best then I can’t see how any manager can be kept on, the ambition simply has to be to get promoted as quickly as possible or the fan base will continue to fall.

We can’t be trigger happy as we do need to build a team, we’ve looked so incoherent in attack especially these last few years and that’s down to instability as much as lack of quality imo.

Difficult decision to make should we not go up, and one that won’t please everyone.

Cam you imagine him getting sacked for us losing at Wembley though? Wouldn’t send a good message out to other managers out there thinking about this role.

This is the khazi league and we are going to have 10,000 season ticket holders all paying £50 more than last season. Add our whizz kid CEO setting up commercial deals that others couldn't even dream, shedding some of our highest paid players and a clean slate, then the expectation should be that we win this league. Absolute minimum is third.

I get what your saying but promotion has to be the aim, a top 3 finish would be better or as you say Champions would be a bonus.

If it is Adams, Sparks is giving us the best possible chance to get out of this league, provided he backs him in the transfer window. 4 promotions tells us he knows how to win. If he fails to even make the playoffs, then there is something fundamentally wrong at the club and how it’s fixed is beyond me. I’d expect, no I’d want Rupp to put us up for sale and hope someone with fresh impetus can find the missing formula.

It's funny that people think having a good plan and a good manager automatically equals success.

What if all 24 clubs have a good plan and a good manager?

    More to it than that.

    Win this league?
When have City been champions in your lifetime, fire tragedy season excepted.
When has this club bossed it and become champions?
Not like you are asking for a miracle here @ Valley Parade.

When have MorecOmebe been in L1 ? Things change. Aim high.

I'm not being arrogant here, but next season, with the right man and our budget, we really shouldn't be hoping to just scrape into the playoffs. Why would winning this appallingly shite league be a miracle ?

No - live locally and it is thought to be Saturday although it could be any Saturday in the next few weeks knowing the local council.

I think the majority of the players will be going or have gone on holiday so who knows.

Grayson ran. Fans didnt run him out.

Bowyer took us down - zero spirit. We were going nowhere under him.

Sparks has very rightly made a point of indicating that the best way of maintaining consistency and continuity over a period of time - given the rate of manager turnover in the game - is by having the majority of your support staff being the choice of the club rather than the ,manager. So, your scouting, data analysis, recruitment, physical conditioning staff should be employed at the behest of the club, not the manager. The manager should have decision rights on his number 2, and probably 1-2 coaches for technical and tactical purposes on the training field, but thats it. It’s essential as a means of protecting the club whenever the manager leaves and if we step back from that approach, I’ll be hugely pissed off and it’ll undermine the sense of structure that we finally seem to be pushing.

If we get the structural side of things right, then changing the manager doesn’t have to be a root and branch reinvention of all things at the club. That said, at some point we need a level of patience to allow for a manager to properly shape the playing side. It’s why we need to back a manager with a proven record at this level rather than blindly trusting rookies like T&S. So in that sense, unless things look as bleak as they did under McCall, the new manager should be given a seasons grace, as a general principle. However, it’s really down to circumstances and context of how the season plays out. And if we get the recruitment side right, there’s no reason why the new manager shouldn’t be charged with getting this club into the top 3 and measured on that basis. If we form a decent playing squad and look to be getting the basics right, in the top half, then the manager keeps his job for the following season. But as I say, that shouldn’t be the level of expectation we openly set as a club.

Still a bit of a lottery with 24 teams having aspirations and just the top three + one promoted. This equates to a 16% chance of finishing in the top 4 across the board. Whoever takes charge he will have to start from scratch and will need the fullest backing from the Club to give us a chance in his first season. For just once let's all hope that everything is in place to match our ambitions and expectations.

Grayson ran because those that led the club had no interest in addressing the foundational gaps he demanded be addressed. And the club regressed massively as a result. Sparks looks to at least have a touch of ambition and thinking on display that extends beyond underpriced season tickets and keeping the club afloat.
