    There is no EFL rule which requires compensation to have been agreed for that to have happened. However, it would be commercial lunacy on our part if that hadn't already been agreed and the new manager had had some involvement in the release/retention lists.

    But there is an EFL rule which prevents a potential club talking to an existing contracted manager without the explicit agreement of his current club. It's interesting that despite all of the rumours here and in cash strapped Morecambe, their owner hasn't even issued the vaguest of 'hands off' statements or threatened even obliquely to involve the EFL. That's very telling imo.

    Sparks must have asked the CEO of the club involved for permission to talk to the person and then been told by the target that he will come to the club no matter what, a gentlemen's agreement of sorts if you like.

    I know that's not a watertight scenario but I cannot image Sparks going public as he did without the strongest possible belief that he had his man.

    If the target lets the club down by giving backword then what can you do but move on?

    Interesting words there How. "If Adams turns us down."

    The interview has already happened and the job offered and an agreement reached-so why would the forum go into meltdown IF the other party has unexpectedly welched on the deal. Who would be at fault then?

    Yes it would be a failure of sorts but why are you insinuating it would be the clubs fault? Imagine they gave the target all the things they asked for and then they welched-what else could be done do you suggest? Genuine question, what else could the club have done?
