I read that when Don Revie signed Mick Jones, he was pondering between Jones or Paul Aimson. Aimson was class and, when he left us to join Huddersfield, I went to Leeds Road a few times purely to watch him play.

That was my understanding also. Riley was reputed to be on silly money at City.

Agreed, I don't think they are being offered their previous roles back and the ones on offer are much more in line with involvement in the first team set up.

We are talking about a player who was nowhere near their first team. When Scott Mctominay broke into the United first team he was on less than £700 a week which sure is over £32k a year so is good money in the real world but is peanuts in Football where even in league 2 where the average wage is supposedly about £2100.

Infact if you look at Man Utd outside those we poached from the likes of Real and Barca's academy or those who have been at the top of the u23's and have been part of the 1st team training squad and have recently signed new deals most are in the £600-1500 range and United are a club that pays at all levels way more than Leicester. So while Riley who was around the first-team squad and did play a couple of times was able to demand a rumoured £3k a week , Wood who was nowhere near the first-team training squad and was poached from Chesham United (And as someone who lived under an hour away from Chesham and have a friend from there I can tell you Chesham United aren't a big club that pays big wages so Leicester wasn't going to have to pay him much to sign for them) was never going to be able to demand anywhere near that.

It might depend more on which end of the table the club find themselves at.

    Good player? Yes.

Someone you want beside you in the trenches? Absolutely not.

I've often thought Staunton would be better at left back. Not quite big enough for CB.

No complaints at all with anyone who's been released. They're all the right calls. Slighty surprised that Foulds has been offered as deal but I'd expect it'll be on the basis of being a backup player, so no real issues there.

Looks like the right calls around. But it leaves us massively in need, in terms of recruitment. By my reckoning:

A left back, right back, centre back, 1 or maybe 2 CMs, another winger or two and at least 2, probably 3 strikers. 8 or 9 new players, minimum. Probably more.

Id say 1 CM be enough as hopefully new gaffer reverts to a 442. 4 strikers for me supported by Evans as a 5th.

Cook - going free and capable.
McAleny - going free. Interested apparently.
Tshimanga - small fee, take a chance.

Delighted with those 3 and one more.

All good shouts, depending on finance. I'd take Cook, but by all accounts he was on a big wage at Mansfield. If we're talking 3k per week or more, I think we can do better for that money. I'd really like us to have more pace up front - its been a long time since we had any. We also need to use the loan market better. there's no point using it to bring in filler like Burrell or Samuels. We need to tempt a couple of players of real quality. I'd like to see Hossanah come back, he definitely had something about him.

Not really any surprises there apart from possibly Hornby given that ROD is still under contract and maybe Novak but the writing was probably on the wall for him after Sparks' interview on Monday when he said that we were looking at players who will be able to play week in week out for 40+ games a season.

It might depend on whether or not Evans is still here and how experienced our new signings turn out to be but if either Clarke or Donaldson are without a club towards the end of the transfer window I wouldn't be too shocked if we gave one of them a call with the offer of £10 and a bag of chips if they fancied warming the bench as a back up striker and being the archetypal "model pro" helping mentor some of the younger squad members.

Fair point on Cook. If the price is right im all for it.

Hossanah was a crock. Had ability but injuries worry me.

I've always stuck up for AOC but even I can't deny that might not be a bad assessment.

I think Canavan and Paudie are perfectly capable in L2, Regards pace can you name more than 1 City centre half with any pace since the prem team that was any good? All the best centre halves were slow, maybe not Graeme Lee slow but still slow

You won't be seeing a 442 if Adams gets it. Its one upfront and a target man at that with him.

Looks like Zeli will still be affiliated to us in 2025 if we going to keep supporting his rehabilitation!!

Bless him, hope he does eventually get fit and picks up playing again or moves on to a coaching type role somewhere.

If he was a horse, he's be heading to the glue factory.

    I think he's done, sadly.

If he was a horse it would be one of those I’ve backed recently.!!
