I'm renewing, supporting the club through thick and thin as we do. Nice to see some tinfoil hats regarding the vaccine too. I for one am looking forward to getting a 5G signal after my 2nd dose.

Seriously though, when you are offered just take the damn vaccine. biggest pandemic in a century and some people STILL make it about themselves. Jesus Wept.

If you were referring to my reply to Park then you're way off the mark.

I've had the vaccine (the first dose anyway) and I've also lost my dad to the virus but I still absolutely defend a person's right to choose.

Especially given that the vaccine is in its infancy and for all we know it could be hugely damaging in the future? I've every faith it won't be and being 44 I'm not all that worried about what might happen in 40 or 50 years but in terms of my kids taking it, yes, of course it's a concern.

I've yet to make a decision on both counts.

With regards to the vaccine, everybody has the right to say yes or no.
Furthermore, the number of countries across Europe who have imposed 'rulings' around the vaccine and whom may receive it, cannot be dismissed lightly. And my father being hospitalised within a day of the vaccine has cast further doubts.

    @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey. My condolences sir.

I also agree that people have a choice but not at the expense of things returning to normal. If passport style documents are required so be it

I agree with your sentiment regarding scanning season tickets but the infrastructure at the turnstiles would need to be upgraded massively.
It would definitely need better than a few young kids earning a couple of quid on a Saturday afternoon taking absolutely no notice of who they were letting in to the ground.
I swear I could have shown them my daughters old Build-a-bear loyalty card and they wouldn’t have noticed.
Think a new automated turnstile system is not at the top of Ryan’s to do list

A couple of seasons ago I'm sure they had the technology working for scanning season tickets. I did a season with someone pointing a scanner at it before they would let me in when they stopped issuing paper season tickets and made them credit card type things with bar codes.

They stopped scanning them the season after - I think the technology broke down somewhere and they didn't want to spend the money to repair it.

I'm sure we've had this infrastructure in place relatively recently, unless I'm having some kind of hallucinatory dream.

Do you want to live in a country where you have to carry and show identity papers whenever challenged ? My wife's sister lives in France and during lockdowns they were literally under house arrest and in fear to go to the shops as they could be stopped, questioned and arrested for any transgression. Whilst it is not mandatory for the French to carry the National ID card it is mandatory for them to carry some form of Govt ID such as a driving licence.

I get the need to be able to move back to normal life, but surely social distancing carrying on, in some format, is a better route to that than full freedom to move as long as you can prove you had the vaccine ?

I sympathise with the hospitality industry and the travel industry but hospitality (and entertainment) can open up without the need to carry cards if we limit numbers and are sensible about continuing table service etc (which I see as an improvement). Travel is a different matter, but not having overseas holidays is a bonus on carbon emissions and from an overall economic position will actually improve the UK economy faster as more will holiday in the UK.

At this point in time, I cant think of anything worse (from a covid perspective) than a rammed Manchester Airport, having to get there even earlier to take a test, potentially sitting in an airport at the other end waiting for another test and sitting on a four hour flight with 300 others, despite having the vaccine at the first opportunity.

We have a "new normal" that we have to live with and will never return to life as it was. I'd prefer that this could be achieved without "stasi" style regular ID checks, and I dont want us to create a sub culture of "second class" citizens who are restricted through a rightful choice not to have the vaccine.

We did but it didnt work properly. They were scanning my previous seasons card for six months before I realised I was using the wrong one.

So they have a choice but if they don't choose how we want them to then we'll decide they didn't actually have a choice in the first place?

    Clear as mud.

So basically we can do it if we make more than a half arsed attempt at it.

Suppose it will depend on what the perceived benefits of it are. If it provides a way to allow iFollow in addition to match day revenue, and that projected revenue covers the infrastructure cost and some profit, then it becomes worth considering.

The fact that we at least attempted it before suggests that it can be done without bankrupting us.

I guess it’s a time thing.Spending on this system to get it absolutely fool proof (or as near as)would need to be done pretty quickly when the season ends. The previous system to be honest didn’t fill me with confidence. The times it didn’t scan and they just let you in rather than have to write your ticket number down and risk a big queue forming was quite numerous. You’ve also only got a couple of months before next season when it needs to be ready for.I’m sure if you ask most fans what they want money spent on,a turnstile system to stop a few dodgy ifollow views won’t be high up on the list.
Hopefully we might be somewhere near back to normal the season after next(22/23)when we can all be back at VP and home ifollow viewing will be just a memory

Looking at Valley Parade, it is difficult to get precise information as to the number of turnstiles. The best I could do was to locate information about a match when the ground was totally sold out

The following turnstiles were in operation:
    W3-W18
    NW3-NW6
    N1-N8
    N9, N10, N11, N13, N14
    S1-S4
    E1-E6 and E10-E12
By my reckoning that is a total of 46.
Now that was when the ground was fully sold out and tickets will have been issued. I anticipate that entry could well be slower if the ticket is handed over and a stub returned, which would have been necessary as it wasn’t a regular game and many would have to find the seat they had been allocated.
I guess the club may need to open about 30 gates normally.
Not sure just how many machines would be required and the technology to back them up, but this is some sort of guide. https://www.thebarcodewarehouse.co.uk/barcode-scanners-and-readers/handheld-barcode-scanners/#r=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

As well as the actual scanner I’m presuming they would either need to be physically attached to a computer that is then linked to the network, cable or wifi, or be wifi enabled with a good wifi system in place. Again then the system in place to check the ticket off and mark as attended.

in this day and age you wouldn’t think it would be a massive task but who knows. Maybe @SimonW@SimonW could give some idea if he knows about those sort of things?
