What makes you so sure?

They've played 2 or 3 games more than most around them and still aren't in the auto places. They're also firmly in midtable on the form guide over the last 10 games so they've definitely got plenty of work to do to maintain the challenge on the top two.

 

Another factor in what will attract/retain players is the return of fans. When this club organizes itself properly, we have a great fanbase and VP will rock with 15 or 16K fans inside it. I think our players will thrive in it.

One interesting comment a few weeks ago from the Rochdale manager. He said that a lot of young players had broken through at clubs this season and had done very well.
He partly attributed this to having no fans. These young lads were used to playing in front of virtually no one in their academy games, so the step up wasn't as daunting as when they're being judged by thousands of fans in the ground.
It'll be interesting to see how some of our young guns cope when there's 15,000+ inside VP.

 

I went to school with Dave Bairstow. Knew him quite well I remember him scoring for City at Rochdale. He was a good keeper as well, I was better (ahem). At 5ft 7ins I was never going to make it though. He was the only "natural" sportsman I knew personally and he was just superb at all sports.

 

He was a far better cricketer than footballer, that's for sure!

 

He sat his A levels on a different day to the rest of us (he was a year older and re-sitting I believe) he sat them on his own about 5:00am as he played for Yorkshire later that day. He was an extraordinary sportsman, as you say cricketer first and formost, there were a few good players in his "inner sanctum" a couple played for Idle CC/ Undercliffe CC. Not me I hasten to add!! That would be 1970 I think.

 

He doesn't seem an Adams type player. If we can get a fee, I think he'll move on.

 

Me too. I like him. One of the few we have who, if properly developed, could be worth a few quid in a year or two

 

I think he will move on IF we sign Songo'o or similar.

 

Well that is pretty much nailed on but we need a competitive squad. Watt will only go if an offer we cant refuse comes in. He wont be pushed out of the door.

 

Why not ? If he doesn't fit Adams plans/ style of play then he could very easily be moved on even if we don't get what we want for him, which in that case would be "nominal" anyway to get his wage off the books. He's Ok but he's not exactly going to be a big fee earner. Can't see Adams putting up with the massive number of silly free kicks he gives away just outside the box.
