He came on in the 88th minute on Saturday.

Wasn't he at fault when Lavery had a chance to equalise?

I guess he did all right considering the rest of the team was flapping, like you say, but my goodness, I've never heard so much praise for a guy who is so badly past it.

The results we've had with him starting are the worst in the club's history.

We won't have a more depressing era than the Donaldson-Guthrie era ever again.

Disagree completely about new managers from ex-pros - they all have to go through the same FA Courses and they encourage different thinking...

Where did I say we didn't need them? I'm actually defending one of them if you read the posts in context.

All I'm hoping for is that we have what I'd consider our strongest side available to start the game. I'm really not sure where the negatives are in that.

Yes, 88th minute, plus five minutes stoppage time so, ok, 7 minutes, not 10.

I don't think many people want him starting games but that doesn't mean he can't do a useful job for us off the bench.

It's clear from this interview that T&S see him as a valuable squad member with a role to play. Also that they want Rowe to buck his ideas up a bit.

I'm in the camp Donaldson has a role to play with his experience seeing games out in the dying minutes and presumably as a good figure in the dressing room, he's certainly no DMH. But the original point I believe someone made was he had done more going forward than Clarke, which is an absolute nonesense. Clarke was probably our best player under McCall (a low bar, admittedly, but he still was) and then put in a several very important shifts out of position on the right as well under T&S

Clarke gets pelters and I've no idea why? I'd get it if he offered nothing but that's clearly not the case.

He was that calming influence, needed at the time. A seasoned pro in what we should realise is a relatively young team?

The conversation is about whether he starts or not. It's an absolute no from me.

Like I said, I have no issues with him getting a couple of minutes at the end of a game.

That's his level now. See games out.

But he poses no threat, and hasn't all season.

I would be interested to know the correlation between people who said he was a useless player when we re-signed him and who say he has done nothing since he came back is.

He outscores DMH in every facet of the game, the first one being; he has a footballing brain. We are all agreed that he is no longer competitive at this level but he deserves our respect, not derision.

Our best player under McCall? Really? Now that IS "an absolute nonsense".

He's a forward player who hasn't scored enough and hasn't created very much either. He's not quick and he's not physical so apart from experience and the odd bit of skill I'm really struggling to understand what made him so outstanding as to be nominated as our "best player" by you?

Mind you, if you're giving professional athletes credit for "putting in a shift" then your bar definitely needs raising at least a few notches.

I said probably, which is probably right. He performed better than most of a massively underperforming squad, I hardly think that's an outrageous statement... all someone had to do was perform averagely to be outperforming most of that squad and he did.

And I think 'putting in a shift' and 'doing a job' when required is actually pretty important in a team sport, especially when you're struggling. Anyway, the discussion was about Clarke as a comparison to Donaldson and, whilst he's done his bit, he certainly hasn't done more than 'put in a shift' himself

So who do you think was the best?
in those 16 games he scored twice and assisted three times. no one assisted more and was joint top scorer in that time. As a deep playmaker he played well and certainly fit the "best player" category as @Doodle@Doodle stated.

He also almost never gave the ball away, held the ball up, brought others into play and looked the only player we had capable of unlocking a defence. He wasn't exactly pulling up any trees but it's all relative to how the others were playing at the time as well.

I agree Clarke was one of our better players under McCall also before his injury and the signings under the two amigos

We'll have to agree to disagree. For me he was as poor as the rest of them, if not worse.

Funny how people see different things, I'd probably go with Doodles view in that very early doors under T&S Clarke was doing a good job on that right hand side, good ball retention and did a lot of work helping out FCD.

When we played away it was all pre-ageeed pre season. Not sure there is any precedent for a mid season switch that hasn't been agreed before the start of the season, at this level anyway.
