If Cook/Novak were available I’d go 442 with Rowe playing off, I’d probably go with Crankshaw/Vernam on one wing with Evans playing on the opposite side. This allows a like for like replacement out wide, or replacing Evans to have Crankshaw and Vernam on at the same time if we’re chasing a game or the result is beyond doubt. I’d also like to see Stevens in the centre at some point. I think the options we have allow us to change between 442 and 4231 pretty seamlessly,

Not on Tuesday, obviously, but I think Rowe could play the Cooke role with Andy Cook up top. I believe he played in midfield for Oldham quite a bit.

 

I think most oppositions would run rings round Rowe in midfield, also would probably be liable to pick up a card or two playing there...

 

He always does. No shock.

Cooke does a lot of work that goes unnoticed which Rowe simply won't do. Highest metre maker over the 90 a few times this season.

 

Yeah it jumped just as Sutton was about to hit it. Annoying that. Coverage on the whole was good. As was their commentary team. Once again showing our two up.

Agree-Cooke is our midfield general at the moment and between him and Sutton we have 2 players who are energetic and often win the ball back and start attacks. Though Rowe did a deft flick on yesterday in the centre circle that would have had us on a 1 on 1 with their keeper had it been another 6 inches higher. Rowe has talent but he needs to be played in that role coming in off the wide position to get a shot off.

 

Like all players there is a certain way of getting the best out of an individual. With Cooke its playing at 10, with Rowe i'm not so sure yet.

 

I thought he played as a striker for Fylde?

 

That would be the issue with paying Rowe wide too. Unless we had a solid and disciplined full back (perhaps AOC?) then we'll get exposed time and time again in the spaces behind Rowe.

 

It makes me smile how Rowe has gone from hero to zero in some people’s eyes yes he has had a couple of poor games against teams that have packed their defences. Cook who has done well for us so far struggled in my opinion yesterday until a bit of terrible defending set him free and he took his chance terrifically.
We saw enough in his first couple of games with the same body language to see that Rowe will be a big player for us.

 

They're both great options. I'm loving that whoever we pick we've still got a brilliant option on the bench if we need to change it.

 

People were creaming themselves after 2 games. Need to watch for far longer than to gauge a players worth to the team. At the moment Cook does more.
