Probably the best thing about the run we are on Exeter apart is how rock solid our defence has been and that’s defence as a team not just our back four. I hardly remember Hornby having to make a save. It bodes well because there will be plenty of matches like last night where the opposition won’t give us the time on on the ball to play fluent football but with the players we have got we have always a chance of hitting the net

How few free kicks do win around the box? We’ve got the likes of Rowe, Clarke, Cooke, Vernham and Watt who are pretty accurate free kick takers, but over the last few games we haven’t had a sniff. Compare that to the opposition in the last 2 matches who’ve had 4 or 5 opportunities each at least.

    So whats your point?

If a team isn't getting few kicks then the other team are being extremely careful in not giving anyway.

If a team is giving away many few kicks then they are being sloppy in that area.

We were lucky that LO didn't take advantage of all the free kick chances that come their way.

How many direct free kicks have we scored from this season?

Anyway a pen is better than a free kick. Stop moaning

A few seem to find it difficult to give any positive feed back, although it was far from a great performance we dug in and turned what looked like a point into three.

For me we were lucky that they were poor at free kicks.

I don't think a wall jumping is defending them well. Free kicks misses tend to be a poor shot or a good save. Don't think Hornby had to make a save from any.

So everybody did their job some of the refs decisions were poor last night even our two penalty shouts the first one was clearer than the second. Trueman was getting increasingly agitated

I expected 3 points and we got the 3 points.

Thought LO did a good job but people need to understand we are not going to play like Man City every week. Sometimes we are going to have to grind out a win and we did that last night.

How LO played is how many away teams are starting to play now. With a low block making it difficult for forwards and midfield runners to find space then try to hit on the counter. Liverpool have struggled badly with this over recent months because the other team just has too many number in their box. Bradford City coped well with it and what was good is we have players on the bench that could change the game.

Trueman said as much in the interview afterwards. The ref just didn’t give us much until later on. My point was, maybe we should be cute around the box and start looking for free kicks when nothing is on. A bit of gamesmanship. As I said not a complaint just an observation.

It's noticeable that we got a lot more free kicks in dangerous areas when Donaldson was playing regularly. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not advocating he should be playing ahead of Cook or Rowe, but winning free kicks is one of the things he's good at.

As you say they set up to stop us but not by parking the bus, the smart call for me was the early double change on 63 minutes still plenty of time for the subs to influence the game Crankshaw for Evans and Cook for Rowe, Crankshaw made an immediate impacked and was unlucky not to score with that near post shot that Vigouroux made a great save to keep out.

Agree Inspector I said this to my lad via WhatsApp during the game. They were given free kicks in areas that with Rowe and Watt we could have given us a chance to score. When teams set up like Orient and there will be others we need to do a lot of work on offensive free kicks, corners and even throw ins to make the difference between continuing the success we are having or falling short.

He is brilliant at using his experience as he did again last night and for all his critics he has never let us down

Lets just say, I'm delighted that his remit is now limited to that of coming on for the last 3 or 4 minutes to 'use his experience'. I don't think he's let us down either. Its just that his legs have clearly gone.

A difference in attitude showed up last night the full back beat Stevens who just let him go. On the other hand Donaldson chased his man the length of the field and in short appearances he can still do a job until the end of this season

The free kicks we conceded outside our box were generally a result of either Watt/Sutton losing the ball and us being exposed, or the same pair chasing back to break up a counter attack. The opposition were so deep that we never really had any space in and around their box for them to be forced into making the same challenges.
