The Bradford City Way, like a lower league West Ham Way (whatever that is)

Dean Windass can't be trusted with a bottle of lager and a bottle opener, let alone a football club.

The first real hint from T&S in the T&A this morning that they want the job permanently and if it's not to be, they will see what happens going forward.

Not quite an ultimatum to Sparks, but certainly I get the view that they think the time is right for them to be appointed permanently.

They clearly now have ambitions of first team management and they are hoping it is with us

Yes I just heard Truman on Radio Leeds. Left no doubt that they wanted the job fulltime

Sparks as good as said on the Hard Truth podcast that he wants to appoint these two. I'm pretty sure that both parties communicate and with the busy schedule at the minute it's just a case of finding time to speak about contracts. I'd also imagine everyone involved is very relaxed about the situation.

They're in the shop window now. There doesn't need to be any panic or rush because I think everyone is working in the same direction. I don't think we'll wait until the summer, I think we'll see these guys made permanent soon, and I think that's the right thing to do.

Truman was hardly likely to say that they weren't bothered whether they got the job or not, was he? Of course he would say they want it, shows they are ambitious. Isn't everyone at their age?
Can't see what all the fuss is about really, the present set up suits all parties, they haven't really got time to be sitting down discussing minute details of contracts in the next few weeks with the playing schedule as it is and if they keep taking the team upwards it strengthens their hand when they do sit down to negotiate.

I agree, the present set up works for everyone. I've said it before but at the start of December, being first team managers of a football league team would not have been anywhere on T&S's radar. They were thrust into the job out of nowhere - no way could they have seen it coming when Stuart had just been given a contract extension, and no way could they have ever imagined at that time that it would have been anything more than a handful of games until a new manager was appointed. Yet, here we are in February with them still in charge and doing a fantastic job. I think it is right and fair they have been given the time to consider if this is what they want going forward; I don't want them to take the job permanently out of some sort of sense of duty, I want them to be appointed because it is something they truly want. Also, the current arrangement works well for Sparks. The last thing he would have needed was to have given them the job permanently after the first 4 or 5 games and then for things to have gone t!ts up. Would not have looked good on him at all after the contract extension mistake with McCall.

One year rolling contract would be best for the club,

Yep, as the average tenure of a lower league manager is 11 months it doesn't make much sense to offer anything else.

I'm hoping that when we do get round to making their roles permanent, that we see them as a long term option and don't dump them after their first bad run. Teams that give their managers time to build tend to do well.

I agree, but it's more important that we have structures in place that don't fall apart based on who the manager/head coach is (or are?) the reality is that long term managers are very rare at this level.

A rolling contact could be incentivised based on progression means they wouldn't be too expensive to sack, and they couldn't just walk away without compensation if they do well and attract attention. Chris Wilder was always on rolling contracts I believe, I think it would work well in our position, if their market value increases nothing prevents us matching it.

Difficult though as we don't know how they do build.

I believe that some are not understanding how massive next season is. I get the feeling its vital we go up.

Obviously it is highly desirable. But why exactly is it vital?

We're losing money mate and maybe Rupp wants out.

Staying in league 2 just isn't going to do any favours. I am not saying don't hire them but I fully understand the club for waiting because if they can't take us up them it will be a mistake to appoint them.

And that has been the big failing of this club since Parky left. When he left he took everything. That was a big mistake that we looked to have rectified when Rahic and Rupp first took over and appointed Abbott in the recruitment role. That all went tits up when meglomanic Rahic decided he could do everything better than everyone else.
Since then we've had no real structure other than one which heaped too much responsibility on the manager and when he failed we went back to square one.
Hopefully, we'll build a structure of recruitment and coaching that means that if the manager leaves it doesn't leave us floundering. The manager/coach role is a very important role but it shouldn't be the corner stone that holds the whole structure up
