No i think we were the only club in our division that voted against the cap. Salford- Bolton and Mansfield, who all said they were against it , signed their players on the bigger salaries , before the cap came in , then voted in favour of it.

A part of me liked the idea of a cap because more money could be spent on the infrastructure. If we go back to putting all the money back into the pockets of the players, we’ll end up with mercenaries rather than those who want to be here. Maybe restricting salary to a percentage of turnover could protect clubs future existence, or limiting the amount of debt a club can accrue might help.

    Salary cap withdrawn..

    Nobody saw that coming.

A salary cap would have been workable had they included Championship and the premier league too.

Clubs being relegated or win ing promotion would have an unfair advantage.

No we were the only league 2 team to vote against it. Just try and have one day off from your constant carping and moaning about Sparks and the club. You’ll feel much better for it.

I bet the likes of AOC will now be looking for a better contract than what they would have been offered if the Cap stayed in place.
Not staying here with City of course.

it was only Grimsby and City who voted against it I believe, shame others abused it beforehand then voted it in. Personally think the best way to combat it all properly is that you can only spend 75% of what you take in.

Could also mean we can offer the likes of wood better terms. Also wouldn't be surprised if city were aware of the salary cap being dropped before the transfer window ended and hence why we paid fees for players.

Plays right into the hands of Bolton & Salford.

The basic idea was right. The amount was wrong. £1.5 million max was grossly unfair on the clubs with larger turnover and just levelled the playing field for the smaller ones. Of course they liked it.

Posted at the time they should have had the level between 1.5 million and 2 million so there was a bit of margin for the clubs with higher turnover and spending power without affecting the objective of the cap

I run a small business , i would love the government to tell my much larger competitors, they canonly only spend the same on salaries as me.

I bet you would andy! To be fair I think the cap made some sense in Covid times but it had to have a bit more flexibility than just one level

Stuart was hobbled by this illegal cap.

    Bring him home.

Don’t mean to be negative but why would we offer Wood better terms than he was on? He signed a 3 year deal on probable decent league 1 wages. He has had an average (at best) season so far, I think there’s better value for money out there personally, certainly wouldn’t be in a rush to tie him down on big wages.
