Couple of questions. What are the criteria for saying a manager (s) is successful/ good at a particular level? And how long does a lucky run last for?

I hope the current interim arrangement is mutual, and there is no real motivation for them to move on, but I do believe it will not be too long before others will try to tempt them away.

You might be right that others will try but I don't believe T&S will be tempted. They've just played their part in one of the most successful January windows I can remember, and also have half a dozen lads in their squad that they are personally responsible for developing. They also appear to have the dressing room 100% on side with what they are trying to do. At this early stage in their senior management career, they'd be fools to walk away from all of that.

I don't think the run has been lucky at all. They've put in hours and hours of hardwork, the performances have been cohesive and you could say apart from yesterday, we've been the better side in every match.
As for being tempted away, unless they're offered silly money I can't see them leaving. I believe that once the window is closed and contracts for Wood (and the others who's contracts expire at the end of the season) are concluded, Sparks will sit down with them and thrash out a 2 1/2 year deal.

With regards to our 2 interim managers ,at the moment they have the security that if things turn for the worst they can fall back into their old jobs with the under 18s ,but if they become full time joint managers they no longer have that security if sacked and will become unemployed. They are doing a great job for us and I feel if any club comes knocking I think they would turn it down due to the same reasons. The best way forwards would be for Sparks to give them a contract stipulating that in the event of them been replaced they don't get sacked but to return to coaching with the youth teams.

How would that work then? What if the coaches that have taken over youth team duties are doing a fantastic job - you can't just sack them off and give the job back to T and S.

They come across as well grounded guys, your comment with regards following the development of the kids they have had will be a personal challenge to see their development from kids to men.
At the moment we have a good balance of older/experienced players and kids and the likes of these kids holding their own and commanding the starting shirt is a great positive to both T&S and the development backroom team.
There will be blips along the way for these kids but they will know better than anyone how to react and how the kids will react to a poor game where they might have cost the team a victory, I cant see either knocking on Ryan's door and asking for a contract extention ag the moment.

I'm surprised people are still talking about formally appointing them until the end of the year.

For me they deserve at least a two year contract, if not more. Otherwise just leave it as it is, all managers are "interim" in reality anyway.

I appreciate the positivism. A long time since we could feel any as fans. Oh, and it's eight unbeaten. Play off possibilities? Let's see what the next five games bring. But late runs from bottom to play offs have been done before on a few occasions in League 2. Wouldn't it be great? Because this is such a carsey league.
Wise words, sir. There will indeed be blips along the way - that's football. How T&S - and the squad - deal with that will be really interesting to see. I am so enjoying being a fan right now, but you're right not to go overboard. It's a marathon not a sprint.

Had to smile yesterday when (I believe it was Cooke) who was being interviewed was asked about our position in the league, to which he said I know they say players don't look at the league table but I have to admit I had a crafty look the other day.
With regards any chance of a play off charge, which is a massive ask, take Cambridge & Carlisle out of the equation and there is only 2 points between 3rd and 7th, as the old adage goes one game at a time.

Agree with all of this, except your analysis of the Barrow game.
This is still a virtuous situation. We have two talented, utterly committed young manager/coaches who are bringing in new, different ideas that have totally refreshed the old school thinking of Stuart and Kenny, Bowyer, Hopkin et al before them. Like Sparks, they're Bradford lads totally committed to the club, bringing in new local players - all of which T&S developed - and are starting to bring back a sense of pride and localism to Bradford City. If wheels fall off before the end of the season, T&S have already shown more than enough ability to return to the great work they've done with the Under-18s, reputations intact. But I don't think that's going to happen. The players seem to love them and the ideas they're pushing. I think we have two very talented young men here, and we're bloody lucky they're at our club.

Right, once this window closes and concludes a very busy period since they took over, surely it's time for Sparks to get them in to discuss a permanent contract

I tend to agree. I wonder if Ryan was waiting to see how they both performed in this transfer window before deciding whether to give them a permanent contract or not. Think that one has been answered.

Seems like they are working well as a team with Turnbull, open minded but clear on what they want. A GREAT combination IMHO.

Everything has a much more planned and organised feel to it. They deserve a contract to reflect their clear talent.

As my dad used to say: Whoa tha father's 'oss.
T&S may have played their part in this transfer window, but I don't think they can solely claim the credit for the signings we've made and the players we've released. Sparks and Turnbull have played a major part in this process.
T&S may well have drawn up a shopping list of the type of player we've needed and also identified players who'd become surplus to requirements, but Sparks will have played a significant part in tearing up the contracts and Turnbull in finding the right players on that shopping list.
I think that before any contracts are doled out we still need to see more from T&S. This month is going to be massive. We've a lot of strong teams to play and I'd prefer to reserve judgement until we've concluded those games.
Whilst the team has been rejuvenated in recent weeks, some of the players who went missing prior to December are still with us and I'm still a little nervous that any setback to our recent form could see them go back into their shell.
Let's just keep things the way they are for at least another month and see where we're at and then maybe it's time to look at contracts?

Ok putting my tin hat on. Looking at this thread, and the Sparks thread -which morphed at one point to this one (come on moderators?), most of the regulars on here, let's face it, are sitting on the fence: "edging your bets, "let 'em lose a few" - test them out ", whippersnappers - they really appreciate being given a chance - but can go back to teaching kids when it all goes wrong!"

This is all well and good if T&S are indeed in agreement, and no other club does not want to edge their bets and come in for them.

This is a possibility, and I ask at what point does the current form stop being perceived as luck, attributable at least in part to T&S, and what criteria do we judge a good manager(s)/ coach at this level?

My overall point is - if it is having a purple patch and then losing several matches in a row and being unable to turn it around for X amount of games before being fired, then we will have the same old choice for our next recruit from the same old manager roundabout, when T&S are told they are not up to it, pull their forelocks, don their caps, bow repeatedly and scuttle back to their "day jobs" like good boys.

To me, the new set up, including T&S is feeling fresh. Yes, young, risky, slightly unknown, but going in the right direction and my gut says the future. Perhaps lacking in ambition for some, more loyalty to a realistic model than Champions league at the moment, but that's my view right now.
