Match Thread Home v Barrow (Sat 30th Jan @ 3pm)

This lot are getting dicked. Same line up as before, there is no debate.

 

2nd I Follow purchase beckons.

 

I've just been on their forum and one person mentions that they need 10 defenders because of Cook and Rowe ,and the rest think they are past it and only need a mobile defender to nullify them.

 

Barrow have conceded two goals in the last five games.

They hammered Cheltenham 3 0 and then beat Vale 2 0 away.

Tough game.

There have been red cards in the last three Barrow games too. Gonna be physical.

 

Squeeky bum time for us then now they've got Devitt.

 

Agreed he'll want to perform well against us after 2 pretty underwhelming loan spells.

 

The one I wonder about is young Cousin Dawson. Was a bit off it last Tuesday initially and with the heavy grounds etc. just wonder whether they might think to take him out of the firing line. If they did I presume they would move AOC to full back and bring Canavan in.

 

They'll stick to the same team - it's worked so far. However ... we have a much stronger bench now to unleash - if things don't go to plan.

 

You do a disjustice to turnip fields! That was one godawful pitch.

 

I think he's a bit of a weak link to be honest. His positioning can be shocking. He was left on his arse on Tuesday at least once by poor opposition. I think opponents doing their homework will try to test him more.

Definitely hopeful for another 3 points tomorrow but with Barrow having signed so many they are an unknown quantity. We can't afford to be complacent.

 

To he fair some of our more experienced defenders can be found wanting at times...

 

Just looking at league table after last nights match, amazed to see Scunny only 6 points off the play offs now. I had them down as certs for relegation a few weeks ago. Just goes to show how a bit of form shoots you up this poor league

 

They don’t draw games. It’s win or lose for them. Just shows how tight the table is. A couple of wins and you’re jumping up the table. Look at Harrogate. Currently in free fall after a decent start to the season.

 

A lot of the teams that were previously flying have struggled recently which has certainly helped. Newport have taken 4 points from their last 6 games. Exeter 6 from 6, Cheltenham 7 from 6, Salford 8 from 6 etc etc whilst previous strugglers such as ourselves and Mansfield have earnt over 2 points per game during the same period. Tranmere and Crawley have also put together a run out of nowhere. Just shows how poor and unpredictable this league is. Do the basics properly and you have half a chance.

 

I'm hoping the bad luck we had with injuries, coincided with the termination of Stuarts contract. If we can keep more people on the training pitch rather than the physio table, we're in with a shout. I know it's a cliche but focusing on one game at a time is the way to go. We can't afford to assume Barrow will be an easy game and I'm sure T & S won't. I like the way they got the team refocused at half time on Tuesday when we lost our way after scoring.

Their manager who I know little about seems to be doing a decent job there. And they like us have brought in 7 players in January. So this match is unpredictable

 

It shows just how badly coached we were before T and S were brought in as 'interims'. I don't think i've ever seen transformation with the same group of players as i have with our current lot. From being genuinely worried about out league status i know expect us to go mout and win every game. Thats not to say we will but if we go a goal down today i'd expect us to win 2-1or 3-2. And all that comes from your last sentence, 'Do the basics properly.' It really is as simple as round pegs for round holes.

 

I’d like to see Cook start with Rowe just off of him and Evans more right and Clarke more left. They can then rotate between them then.
I felt we missed that proper target man and have done since Wyke left.
Not to big boot it but for him to lay it off for others and hold it up.

I’d say 2-0 win today and it will be a big win if we get it. Up the city
