Agree, he was much better in the second half than he was in the first. Maybe he will get better for us with a few games under his belt like Sutton did.

Was just going to mention Sutton, I thought he was superb today, I admit to judging him before he kicked a ball but estatic to be proved wrong. I'd even go as far as say he's becoming one of if not the first name on the team sheet, his work rate and commitment is exactly what we need. Not afraid to take a man on too.

You were saying the same about Guthrie.

Your judgment on players is the worst on Bantam Talk by a country mile.

Yeah it is. First black ref in 11 years too. Hopefully he continues up the ranks. If that game was like his others id expect to see him in the championship soon. Its rare to see a ref card someone for giving lip but its something i like to see. Shows players hes in charge.

And one of those wins was 4 nil to clinch promotion in 1985, Bobby Campbell 2, and 2 for John Hawley.

As you know I still rate Clarke but today I thought he was disappointing, whereas I thought Evans and Cooke got through a lot of work.
Where I agree with Fordy is that to progress we need to bring in better players to get to where we want to be. The three of them can do a job for now but Clarke and Evans are over 30 now so will soon need replacing.
Cooke is a bit different issue. Despite his looks he is still quite young and like Elliot Watt he looks to me like he can improve and progress his game with the right coaching.

No Fordy. I'm always in agreement with you that we always want better players and better football but credit when it's due, Evans did a very good job today.
He reminds me of a guy I played with (see my long term memory hasn't gone). He put the hard work at both ends of the field, he certainly used to come back to help me out. He also had more skill than me and the lads would ever tell him he had!
Evans will be replaced by someone younger in the near future I should think but for now let's back the lad. When he's fit he's got a tremendous workrate.

I understood he was booked for diving. Yes he did argue but that was for the booking , the arguing nearly got him a second yellow.

I agree. I like Cooke, there's a player in there, it just needs work. Between now and the summer, strengthening the wide and forward areas with better quality at a young age needs to be a priority.

I liked how he brought POC over to have a word as captain, when a few niggly fouls started to accrue. A bit of common sense and pragmatism, which you don't see often with refs. I thought he gave a couple of soft fouls and the moment in the second half where there were 3 obvious fouls inside about 10 secs that he let go was strange, but otherwise he was a good ref. Definitely one of the better ones.

I thought FCD had his best game in a City shirt. He's clearly still a work in progress but he was up against a very experienced and quality player in Hoolahan. For the most part I thought he looked after him well, showed a bit more maturity and aggression in his defending and didn't give the ball away often. I think he'll grow into a very good player at L1/2 level.

The O'Connors were excellent too. In fact, our defensive organisation, work rate and aggression were top notch. And Sutton looks a completely different player.

He let the game flow but when necessary he had a word with the player and if required booked him, I thought he was excellent yesterday ;).

There's something i like about Sutton, an air of unpredictabilty about what he's gonna do. Couple that with the pace he's got, just let him roam about and have someone disciplined around him.

If there's one player who is really benefitting from us now being organised and people knowing what's expected of them it's him. He's obviously got moments of rashness in him, and they were always more likely to happen when we were all over the place and he was left exposed.

You always need someone in your team that can make something happen and at the moment thats Sutton. Pops up all over the place. And that turn of pace an asset you can't teach.

I carried a bit of Cambridge turf from that day round in a hole in my scarf for years. Until the scarf flew out of the window on the way to Blackburn

When you heard someone had 'taken one for the team' you would probably put money on it being Sutton.
