Agree. I REALLY don't want us to go back to 3 at the back. It'd be madness. And the O'Connors have been in good form. Canavan will have to wait for his chance, and then take it.

 

Much the same as you FB, I hate the 3 at the back and has been used for pretty much all of our demise. I can only remember one team playing 3 at the back over the last few years well in the lower divisions and that was an absolutely brilliant Bristol City team who smashed us 5 0 I think?

 

I'd like to see Stevens start. We've been desperate for some pace in the side and now we have it, it would be silly not to use it. Pritchard's injury is an opening where I can see Clarke moving to the left for Stevens on the right.

Yeah me too. We've been really short of pace and especially playing away from home, we'll need to be able to counter. I could definitely see Stevens starting.

 

Cousin-Dawson has done a fantastic job but he's still a young lad so lets manage his development properly. One benefit of Stuart's attempt at adopting overlapping centre backs was that it showed how strong AO'C is on the ball for defender and he has covered well at right back before.

The games are going to come thick and fast now so rotation is going to be important to get the best out of the players over the coming weeks. But given the long break we've had I'd say picking the best team available in an attempt at kickstarting another run is required here and a back four of Wood, Canavan, P'OC & A'OC looks our strongest at the moment (presuming Hosannah is still out?).

 

Donaldson instead of Cooke?

Only because I’d use Donaldson as a target man. Rowe has said he’s not one, so pumping head high balls at him could turn him into the next Doyle. Let’s hope T&S play to his strengths.
To be honest though, Cooke has been less than influential and is one who I could see lose his place if another centre midfielder joins the club.

 

Can only see the Don as a last 15/20 minutes man now, leading up to his retirement.

 

I would stick as close as possible to the line up we had before the break it was working. That means playing Rowe upfront

 

My Mrs has booked us into a hotel out of town for the weekend. She's getting carried away with having the past Saturdays free. Question for the forum - should I tell her I'm taking my laptop with me, or should I suprisingly whip it out at 3pm and let her sulk?

Yeah I get the reasoning but I doubt whether Don can be a effective as we'll need for 90 minutes.

The second point is that, just because it's only one up top it doesn't mean we have to lump it to his head. I hate the labeling positions but a target man can be effective with balls into his feet and body allowing him to hold it up and bring others around him into play. The Oldham fan on here said Rowe did that extremely well so as long as we play with intelligence he'd be a great fit as a solo striker.

 

Whip it out for half an hour in the morning to look at future breaks away and try bag some brownie points before delivering the bitter news you'll be watching the game in the afternoon?!

 

I hate three at the back as much as anyone, but certain posters called me a fossil for wanting a 4/4/2 or similar, citing how two of the top three played three at the back. I wonder if that view has changed after our upturn in results ?
