As you say his best days were behind him but we still blew promotion on the last day at Posh, didnt we need a point but lost 1- 0 on the day under George Mulhall :(.

My wife who passed away last month went to that game at Posh on the coach with the player's wives. She got chatting to Alex Sparks wife (no relation to the present Sparks). She told Carol that the day before the game most of the squad were told they were being released by the club on the Monday, good preparation that and you're right we only needed a draw.
Carol said they all went for a meal afterwards and the atmosphere was terrible. She said George Mulhall was sat on the team bus working his way through a bottle of scotch.
I stayed in Bradford playing cricket for Windhill, we lost as well.

I saw George Mullhall siting on the coach by himself minutes after the game

If I remember correctly we were all over them but couldn’t score. Then we learned that all our rivals had won , it made for the worst journey home from an away game.

But we all sang "the bright side of life" at the end.
I also remember rocks being thrown in the car park after the game and the train home being rowdy. Oh, and I got told off by my mum for being drunk.

Years ago the famous quote was "we dont want to go up" usually with regards the extra money that might entail, maybe there was some truth in it.

Went to that game on a Bradford special train.
    Police escort from the station.
Crazy journey down bottles of urine being thrown out of the train windows as we passed stations but, a bit more sombre on the way back.
Weird to say but " Happy days".

I went on the special train to Posh that day too.

We were all convinced that promotion was a formality. Even if we lost at Posh, it would still take quite a few results to all go against us, including someone having to win by 4 goals too, which they duly did.

Talk about our bubbles being well and truly burst that day.

It's pretty vague, but im sure we were pipped because we lost and they won by 4-1 i think, swinging the goal difference, as i say it's vague tho A64 Bantam.

That was the day that I was screaming for us to park the bus, hammer the ball out of the gound at every opportunity and to be very, very ugly just to get the point that we needed!

Worst ever post match feeling that day. Absolutely gutted. Out back home later in the evening a Leeds supporting acquaintance took the piss. Done in court for ABH a month later.

I was there that day Broncs. Coming back on the City Travel coach, I don't think I have ever felt so low football wise. And that includes the playoff final v Millwall.

It took me weeks to recover from the disappointment.

Remember getting stranded from the coach at the end of the game and had a claret and amber mohair striped jumper on and had to fight my way to it through all the piss taking posh fans. covered in blood and spit. Bad day all round
