I guess it depends which way you look at it.

You can say that they do very well considering how small their crowds are.
Or you can take @Bigrod@Bigrod 's viewpoint - ie, maybe they get such small crowds (despite having a massive catchment area in an affluent part of the country, with no competing big clubs nearby) because they constantly sell their best players and scupper their own promotion chances.
Maybe if they achieved a better balance between finance and on-field success - instead of always prioritising finance - they would attract the sort of crowds that their advantageous geographical position suggests they ought to get. They could then stabilise at a higher level due to bigger ST sales and gate receipts. Just a thought.

Good point. For the money Peterborough have made DM should have built a true epoch, but they haven't. Where has that money gone, - would appear to be on finance payments for the stadium and other developments.

Once that has has been built, they then have to rely on being able to repeat the trick to finance a push up the leagues, what happens if Barry Fry pegs it or falls out with DM ?

Build the team then backfill the infrastructure, like Bournemouth & Watford did.

Another good point, but their catchment area is massively impacted by having thousands of Spurs & Arsenal fans around them, all ready to catch a train to home matches.

As for affluent area ? Peterborough is to that part of the world, what Keighley is to West Yorkshire. A boil on the bottom of humanity.

I was thinking more of Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

I suspect they draw nothing from Hertfordshire as it's pretty much Spursland through and through. I lived in Hertford for a while and every man and his dog was spurs fan.

Cambridgeshire is a possibility but MK Dons & Luton are almost as close to most of Cambridgeshire as Peterborough and they have Leicester and the East Midlands just up the road. Bedford is just down the road, but that's also a massive hotbed of Spurs fans. Could be that DM sees that they can never compete and doesn't really have any ambition to do more than dip in and out of the Championship.

His ambition is to be a top 12 championship regular where his transfer policy would see players like Ivan Toney go for 3 to 4 times the money Brentford paid.

Quite a few Chelsea and Norwich fans in Peterborough too.
Lots of people moved up from London a generation or 2 a go and many London commuters. Of people I know with football season tickets down here the majority are for London clubs not Posh.
To be fair they could do with taking a leaf out of book and dropping the prices or doing some more offers to get kids in

Oh do nothing like Bradford City and live off HOPE!!!

As for Peterborough once all is built then the owners sell. That will be the plan.

Got a very good manager currently and a good set up it seems with signings recently. Younger players who look hungry rather than your Charlie adams of this world

You could say the same for City. Many beasts of Beeston in the MBC area, also Liverpool, Manchester United, Burnley, a few Kennels Watchers and more recently Manchester City. All very easy to get to. A long time ago I use to go to watch Everton play, with a work colleague, Bradford lad, who was an Everton Season Ticket holder.

Keighley; Surrounded by beautiful countryside and a great watering hole. If it really is a boil on the bum then W Yorks has many that can compete.

I’m sorry, I just cant buy into the argument that their low crowds are due to them selling players.

If you are angry one of your hot shots is being sold it suggests they’ve done well for your team. If more players than not are doing well you’re gonna be at the right end of the table.

I don’t know the real reason their fanbase isn’t bigger, but fans getting hacked off their best players are getting poached isn’t it.

They have a proven production line and keep bringing through the next talent. Craig Mackail Smith, Dwight Gayle, Britt Assombalonga, Ivan Toney, Lee Tomlin, Jack Marriott, Connor Washington etc. They churn then out. Even Paul Taylor and Aaron McLean went for over 1m.

They clearly have an outstanding scouting structure and have employed good coaches, who improve players while sustaining a promotion push.

    It’s a sustainable business model.

Plenty of decent places to live in the Keighley area, however, the town centre is awful
