Conor McAleny lwould be a good signing as long as we can keep him fit.

 

We don't have a very good track record with sick notes though.

 

163 games scoring 38 goals , not alot of games to say he's 28.

 

Can’t see us taking a risk with another sick note even with a decent player like him Danny Rowe was excellent against us

 

And miss the opportunity to bin him off? He had to go at the earliest opportunity.

We have time to find a replacement and 4 forwards until we do. Patience.

Not much to get excited about in my opinion. Stop start career, loads of teams, not many goals.

 

I'd take Rowe any day of the week. I still can't understand why we didn't have a go for him when we sold Wyke. He was banging in serious amounts of goals at national premier and now he's effortlessly made the step up to league 2 and is possibly the experienced striker we should be going for. The question is, would Oldham sell or need to sell? Another player I'd like from there on the left is Bobby Grant.

 

McAleny reminds me a bit of David Ball. Not an out and out striker, but can play off one.

Suits our formation perfectly if we continue with just Novak up front on his own.

Fleetwood have had a few players like that over the years - both McAleny, Ball, Billy Clarke, and Ashley Hunter to name a few. None are prolific goalscorers, but that doesn't mean they aren't good players.

If that's the style we were going for going forward, I'd have no issues with McAleny signing - but it's probably a redundant discussion anyway?

 

Oldham are only his third permanent club though. Hes having a decent season...decent lower league player.

 

30 years old, scored 7 in 25 for Oldham. He would be an upgrade on Guthrie yes, but is it greedy to be wanting someone better?

 

What about Zac Dearnly? Scores goals, seems to play across the front 3 positions, and is a young prospect who fits the current thinking of looking beyond the usual suspects.

 

I'd be pleased with that IF we were also bringing in someone with a bit more experience as well. I'd love to see us go for Danny Johnson, out of contract in the summer so maybe a possibility if the price is right.

 

From reading Oldham fans twitter and forums, they don't sound too impressed by Rowe. A few make out he doesn't run for anything, if he plays he stays up top and waits for the others around him to do the leg work but when they create for him, he doesn't finish nearly as many as he should.

McAleny having a great season. 10 goals from 37 shots in 14 starts in the league for a player who plays off the striker, really good return. Looks like at Fleetwood he was told by Barton in Jan 2019 he wouldn't be starting so look for another club, loaned out for the majority of his time until his contract came up.

 

Oldham’s left winger Dunn looks a decent player he is the right age as well if there is any truth in the rumour

 

In fairness though he hung around at Everton until he was 24/25 obviously hoping to break through so his first team appearances were always going to be very low.

Yes he has had his share of injuries over his career, hence my "long as we can keep him fit" comment the lad is class certainly at league two, Oldham seem to have got it right with him this season.

 

@RCarol is this sworn to secrecy deal just in early stages and more likely to be concluded near to the end of the window? Or are we talking before this weekends game or next week? One thing the break has helped is with is the transfer side of things. I wonder how far we would have been with signings and realising players if we had games in the way.

Thanks for that. I'm guessing the player in question is out of contract at the end of the season and we've offered decent money. As i can't see Oldham selling to us with them being in a similar position. Or they have a replacement of their own lined up.
