Yes January is a very difficult month to prize away established strikers if you look on Newsnow at other club there a lot looking

Only because you believe not declaring unfounded positivity is somehow being negative.

There's always middle ground, opinions don't necessarily have to be labelled as positive or negative.

    Totally agree.

Always have an open mind. Maxim’s like; ‘plus and minus’, ‘pros and cons’ evidence based opinion, review-reflect-amend; are all healthy and objective approaches.

Preconceived views, such as denial of reality, always defend a position even if it is becoming untenable and ‘blind faith’, are in my opinion very subjective and verge on some form of paranoia.

Because if Novak gets injured, it's Donaldson and a kid who has never scored in his life - which we were relegated to when Guthrie and Novak were both out, and it was the most miserable period in Bradford City history.

Donaldson and Burrell up front is to accept relegation.

Regardless of how poor Guthrie was, he's better than a retired-man-walking and either kid with zero chance of scoring a pro goal - which, according to their records, is what they both are until they prove otherwise.

Alternatively, there's no argument whatsoever that we're stronger up front with fewer numbers and the same number of non scoring forwards.

I'm not saying it is going to happen. But I'm aware that it might and as such, I prefer to reserve judgement on whether this is a good window or not until it closes. To be saying at this stage that we have strengthened is premature imo, when 4 of the signings so far are pretty much unknown quantities and we don't know who is yet to arrive and who else might be leaving.

How do we keep going back to 'it can't be worse'?

How many times do Bradford City have to blow that logic out the water? Literally multiple times every single season

We have Strengthened even if it’s only defence we have a good extra proven centre half that’s strengthening. Plus we have an extra left sided defender so that’s Strengthening. So it can not be argued we haven’t

Stopped reading after "Bantams’ presence at that end of the table has come as a surprise to many, given the expectations on them at the beginning of the campaign.

Suprise definitely on fighting relegation. But I had little expectation for the season, as did most whom could see through this decidedly average team.

    Has anything changed? Not really.

Canavan looks to be a good signing and an up grade on BRE . If none of our existing first choice defenders leave during the remainder of the season then yes, we will have strengthened in that area. I don't think any of us can say with any conviction that Foulds strengthens us. Even T&S and Turnbull aren't convinced enough to offer him more than a short term deal until the end of the season. I hope he shows a lot of potential and improves us so much that we get him tied down to a much longer deal. However, that is very much ifs and buts at the moment and it would be foolish to think otherwise.

So we agree then that as we stand we have strengthened then. Of course we might lose a player or on the other hand there will be more coming in. We are on course for a decent January for a change

I just don’t get anyone thinking Guthrie leaving weakens the squad, I mean come on, if we could hold a fans raffle, and the winner of this weeks second half substitute is.......
We’d be no worse off!! Some appear to think he was more of a threat than Donaldson!!
OMG.......Donaldsons mum would give more up front than Guthrie, I’ve never seen (including Kai) a more useless excuse for a striker ever pull on a city shirt. Maybe if he’d tried a little bit I wouldn’t be so scathing. So as far as I’m concerned whoever they bring in to replace Guthrie MUST be better, FFS even a corpse would be an improvement!

There is one area that we are undoubtedly weaker and that is goalkeeper. We have approx 10 weeks until O’Donnell returns and a lot of games to play in that time. We go into it with 2 inexperienced keepers who have about a dozen league games between them. I feel we need to sign a keeper with experience ( possibly a loan ) to get us through this period.

Thoroughly disagree. Kai had endeavour but absolutely nothing else.
For his faults and Guthrie has them, he is way better than Kai, though the bar is low.

I’d love to understand how Guthrie was better than Kai.....
In a division above Kai put pressure on centre halves, resulting in teams doubling up on him, freeing space up for other players. This forced teams who would normally hold a high line and press to retreat further back towards their own net, again creating space for his team mates.
He was a throwback to the days when all teams had a big sh*t house centre forward and he noticeably put the wind up the opposition. Ok he couldn’t actually play, kick or head but he did a job and left everything on the pitch IN A LEAGUE ABOVE.
I don’t remember ever seeing a defender look worried when up against Guthrie, or Guthrie breaking into a sweat.
I don’t care if he scored a worldie for Stevenage, I’m judging him solely on his efforts in a City shirt.

I have no doubt Guthrie was much better technically than Kai but Kai gave it all made himself a nuisance and benefited the team more as a whole

Will always remember the time a Gillingham? player squared up against him and he bounced off Kai so hard he almost knocked himself out and Kai just walked off.
Anyone know where the video for that is?

Granted, I’ve skipped past the majority of post’s over the past 5 pages or so, but talks of being weaker at this point in the January window is, in my opinion, powder puff - somewhat.

    I’ll revisit on the 1st Feb. ;)

The best time to properly evaluate this transfer window is after 01 Feb and seeing the new lads in action.

Having seen some truly shocking transfers in previous January windows, I will reserve my judgement until I have actually seen them play but tend to agree how can we be weaker with those that have departed the club unless any replacements are even worse in which case we are in dire trouble. Get the feeling they won't be seeing how quickly they have been brought in ie a considered signing not a last day panic buy eg Guthrie.
