Bradford City are at risk of going out of the football league and all that entails. It’s not a time for charity or experiments to see if he can play. He failed to score at Tonbridge Angels’ level with Kidderminster, his only senior goal is against our own juniors in the Pizza Cup. If he was one of our own youth I’d agree, he’s a 20 year old from one of the wealthiest clubs in the country. The correct place for him is seeing out his contract at Wolverhampton.

My apologies, he’s scored one goal against our reserves/juniors and one against a sixth tier side. Call off the search for a new striker.

Why are some on here always so quick to write off young strikers?
Oli McBurnie derided by some on here when Parkie threw him into the first team........
A certain Omari Patrick has just scored, putting Carlisle (known by some as the City rejects) top of the division. Maybe just maybe we’re a little quick to judge young strikers, maybe just maybe keeping Omari wouldn’t have been the worst decision in the world. Maybe theirs a footballer in Samuels after all, just waiting to be coached properly and given some confidence, hope he doesn’t ever log onto here!

Wolves might turn him into the next Steve Bull, but I’ll say it again, we’re four points off the relegation zone. Novak, Guthrie, Don and Samuels have 12 goals between them. Novak has seven of them and he’s out injured for a third of the season so far. This isn’t the time to be training up Wolves’ players. If Novak gets injured again, who’s scoring the goals that keep City in the league, the goals that might just keep City in existence?

If Austin gets his confidence knocked by that he’s never going to make it as a professional footballer. I’d sooner see Austin back at Wolves and City sign someone who can score goals in Lee Novak’s absence

Teams like Liverpool and Man City recall their players that are not starting. In fact Liverpool have today from Fleetwood. The player won't ever make it at Liverpool but clearly they look after their players and don't want to ruin their career.

Austin needs to go back to Wolves for his own good.

As for us we need to get rid of Guthrie, send Austin back if Wolves don't demand his return then sign proven forwards that are known to score goals.

I don't think we will go down but we need to understand our situation. Currently we have to many inexperienced in our ranks on and off the pitch which could lead to trouble if we don't pull away from this dogfight at the bottom.

I’m at a loss as to why we write players off so soon, Oteh is dragging Stevenage out of trouble, joint top scorer plus top in assists. We couldn’t wait to send him back to QPR.
Patrick is becoming a bit of a hero at Carlisle, oh and a certain Riley chipped in with an assist to put them top of the league, Fordy, you lambast French almost as often as you wax lyrical about the bin dippers, yet forget his age this is his first full season as a pro....Christ cut him some slack. Why would sending Samuel’s back help his career??
Do you think he’ll have more chance of making the first 11 at Wolves?
Maybe you think his confidence will take a boost if he fails at a lower half 4th division outfit?
We don’t know how he performs in training, we don’t know if we have an option to sign at the end of the season, we don’t know how much we’re contributing to his wage.

Ok, first of all lets not look at the internet and see ex players scoring goals then think all these players were good for us. Recent times the forwards that have done well for us are: Wells, Hanson and Wyke. Some mate say Clarke but we have him back. That's it! The Oteh, the Patrick's were rubbish for us. Oteh has scored what 4 goals this season. Mate, nothing to write home about.

Players might go to other clubs and do a little better than they did for us because they might get more game time but remember playing for Bradford City isn't just about playing in front of a 8-14k fan base, its a big club in the lower leagues with a lot of pressure on it. Some players can't handle the pressure and don't produce the goods.

Then reason my clubs recall their players or the Austin should go back is because he's better off scoring goals at Wolves under 23's or find a smaller club with less pressure like Stevenage which he can relax more and gain more confidence.

If I was doing a presentation to the PL Clubs I would be saying if your players want or learn about handling pressure then they should join us but don't send players that can't handle it as we don't want them.

We need players that can cut it! Austin isn't for us and we are not for him. Send him back!

I would say as a young raw back up striker we should keep him maybe even sign him if wolves release him. Wood wasnt fantastic his first season at the club, even mcburnie ended up at a PL club! Quite right hes nowhere near novak at the moment and a replacement alongside novak to replace Donaldson is needed.

agree about writing players off, but Samuels isnt ours and isnt working here so would send him back to free up a squad place. we have no time to let him come good and needed a first team ready striker not a project

It's strange how we all remember things differently. My recollection of Oteh being recalled by QPR is that the overwhelming feeling was one of disappointment (myself included).

Fordy, your missing my point and to say I googled some ex players is way wide of the mark. I checked the results for our league, then checked the table, as most fans do on a Saturday night!!
As a club we operate on such a short term basis, almost Season to Season, this was implemented by Parkie under Lawn & Rhodes & produced success. All monies were fed into the first team to the detriment of everything else.
This engenders a short term approach to player development, When we bring in a young player, if they don’t look like the finished article within a very short space of time we demand they are let go or sent back because their not good enough for the mighty BCFC.
Patrick scored a worldie against Oxford away and he’s the best thing since Messie, then shock horror, actually he’s a young inexperienced player trying to learn his trade. We all decide he’s stealing a wage.
As stated in an earlier post lots on here thought McBurnie wasn’t good enough for god sake!
In my opinion we need to take a longer term view on younger players, they will make mistakes and be inconsistent, they will go through periods where they don’t perform and drop out of the team. Some won’t make it, however which ever way you dress it up, two of our “rejects” have played a pivotal role in helping Carlisle to the top of the league, two players BCFC IN 18th PLACE decided weren’t good enough. I’ve no idea how Devine’s doing for them, maybe he’s injured or can’t make the squad.
We don’t know what the deal with Wolves Is with Samuel’s, he’s never going to make it at Wolves, so we might have an option for him come the end of the season, just like we did with Paudie. Can we cut him some slack and see how he develops, we all thought Wells was useless when he first signed, we need to stop being so impatient!!

In all walks of life, people develop / mature at different rates.
The big problem with city is that we are looking for instant sucess. So any young player that appears in the first team is deemed as not good enough, if they dont reach and maintain a high level of performance. How often does that happen, very rarely throughout the whole of football.
People on here talk about structure and forward planning, these things take time and it does appear that we have finally joined the party. We are currently in a poor position , but i think we will have enough to survive , probably with a few bumps along the way and start to build for next season. As i say these things take time, we appear to have a reasonable set of youngsters at the moment, lets get behind them . It reminds me very much of the early eighties , a few old pros and a set of young players, who matured togethor over a few seasons and turned in to one of the best footballing sides in my lifetime.

Success is achievable when the balance and quality matches the chemistry of the squad. I truly hope that the interaction we are now seeing at VP is indeed the early signs of a sustainable recovery of fortune.

The trouble at the moment is that we have four strikers and in reality only one is performing at the level expected.
    Novak, 13 appearances 6 goals
    Donaldson 17 appearances 2 goals
    Samuels 12 appearances 0 goals
    Guthrie 8 appearances 0 goals
Between 3 of them, 37 appearances and 2 goals.
I get the proposal that we allow players to develop, however this has to be balanced and proportional to our requirements to function in a constructive manner.
For sure ‘experiment’, but that has to be peripheral to the main function, which is to field players who are able to perform the role that they have been signed for and are sent out onto the pitch.
We aren’t a retirement home, nursery and a hostel for ‘lost’ players.

It's a shame really because if we had a Staunton/FCD equivalent who was attacking/striker then he'd be getting the odd bit of time here and there and we probably wouldn't have Samuels. Shame really that the current group of young ones are all defenders/central midfielders
