Andre Green is a decent player, too good for league 2. But he ain't gonna come here and play for magic beans even if he is without a club. Would love to see him here thought.

    Taken from twitter:

James Vaughan has 11 goals so far this season. Lee Novak (4), Kurtis Guthrie (0), Austin Samuels (1) and Clayton Donaldson (5) only have 10 between them

To be fair, we could have just loaned him to them and contributed to his wages.

Or we could have made him sit on the bench and fine him everything he broke the rules. We just bent over and let him bum us, as we always do.

He wouldn't be any good for us, he can control a ball first time, pass to another player and shoot on target. Absolute waste of space he would be.

You're right, most clubs aren't daft only ours. We have a habit of recruiting players who have suffered relegation after relegation. In other words they've become accustomed to losing and are useless in a battle. Parky would look at character first and foremost. I can see very few in this side with any character what so ever, can you?

How many of our own players (not recruited by Parky) have gone on to better things since leaving the club? Maybe Doyle and Vaughan but that's probably it out of how many dozens of players that have left. Boy has our recruitment been a disaster.

But if we had done that, the clubs fans including me, would have bashed the club for not using Vaughan whilst we were struggling, using up some of the salary cap at the detriment of bringing in new blood.

No win situation in fairness here. And let's be honest, the player and his agent are likely to hold most of the cards.

The club held his registration, he had two years left on his contract and was signed before the salary cap so would have only counted as the average salary.

Stuart's stubborn philosophy when it comes to free agents is made even more puzzling when you look at the examples of other clubs in L2 using that market to bolster their squads for the better since the window closed. I can't claim to know if the following players have performed well for their clubs but from a distant view:

Scunthorpe. One win in the league up until the start of November. Signed goalkeeper Mark Howard (ex-Bolton & Blackpool) and defender Junior Brown (ex-Coventry) in October. Their November league form has been 3 wins, 1, draw and 1 loss keeping their 2nd and 3rd clean sheets of the season in the process. Howard has started 7 games since joining and Brown has started 5.

There are other smaller cases as well. Michael Folivi joined Colchester at the start of November - has featured six times scoring twice. Tom Pett joined Stevenage at the start of November - has featured six times scoring once, Stevenage have lost only once since he joined (albeit only won once as well - a lot of draws). Danny Lloyd joined Tranmere mid-November, Tranmere have won every game he's featured in (albeit mostly from the bench). Defender Rhys Bennett joined Carlisle mid-November, he's featured six times scoring twice.

Like I say, I'm sure there are many caveats and other circumstances to these examples but I think they prove Stuart incorrect in two ways. Firstly, that free agents need 4 weeks to get up to speed. All of the above players went straight into playing (and free agents can't be any more unfit than our current squad but that's another point). Secondly, there is quality in the market that can provide a timely boost if you are willing and able to hunt for it.

    Excellent Post and good research.

I am sure there are examples to the contrary which could be pointed out but I think you are quite correct in that it is down to Stuart's stubbornness, and the fact he initially said this that he wont change his mind - to the detriment of Bradford City. I also think this was the case with his comments after Bolton away, this is when the pressure began to intensify and he made the comment that we dominated (dunno how many shots) and would have had a point had we not missed a penalty - therefore the 3-5-2 formation clearly works and I need to persevere with this! It clearly doesn't Stuart!!!

    Top post Aireboro.

It beggars belief that McCall has stubbornly refused to look at the free agent market. He is relying on us being out of the bottom two as we enter January, not that he would know, as he stated in the post match interview on Tuesday that he doesnt look at the league table. He is also banking on recruiting 2 or 3 loan players at the beginning of the window. Hoe many times have we managed to recruit at the beginning of the January window, probably never before, it is usually last minute panic recruits on 31st January, which would mean yet another month wasted and probably facing an uphill task to pull clear of the relegation zone.

Very worrying times, this is the most pessimistic I have ever been about our beloved club in 55 years of watching

Even worse than the 65-66 season when City won only only 3 of the last 18 league matches and had to apply for re-election?

Maybe the question is why is he still without a club, as you say still a kid at 22, 40 games for Villa and out of work.

Imagine Vaughan being told he would sit the rest of his contract out on the bench, McCall has enough problems without a player who told the club he would not try if selected, he's history, just looking at his career suggests it's all about James Vaughan.

I was only 5, so probably didnt realise the potential consequencies at the time!. My days at Valley Parade then were spent looking forward to a packet of plain crisps with the sachet of salt in them, at half time, and running around the crumbling kop with my cousins.

Good point and I doubt Parky would have signed either Vaughan or Doyle as they wouldn't pass his personality assessment, and he would have been right.

I wonder if the 2/3 loanees the club have identified, include Hosannah and Samuels on permanent deals? It wouldn't surprise me if they were. Maybe they've confirmed with the parent clubs they won't be recalled in January.

Hosannah has just signed a longer deal at Leeds, so that's a no-go.

I'd love to have Hosannah on board as our player unfortunatly I believe he signed an extention resently, but of the two Hosannah looks the better prospect going forward.
