Aye, I'm not confident whatsoever but we can hope I suppose.

You only say that because they are the public figureheads though when in reality their job is far more one dimensional than its ever been. They don't even sign their own players these days at the top level.

No he doesn't have it the wrong way round. The board set high level targets. The management team build a plan on how they intend to achieve those targets and what is needed to achieve them (budget)

If the whispers that the board are not supporting him or providing the funds for him all that does is make Teflon comes across as weak. He has committed to a plan and reaching the target. If he isn't supported he should walk.

I believe he is being supported as much as the club is able to and that the problems lie elsewhere i.e. perception of the club, perception of Teflon and Teflon Jr (Black) as a management team and Bradford as a town in general.

The division is a pretty level playing field this year. He has no excuses.

I reckon if someone bought you one of these for Christmas you'd have an aneurism. Oh, and Bradford is a city, not a town. There's a clue in the club's name.

The board probably wouldn’t have as much pushed onto them is they hadn’t gone through so many managers, and taken a top end league 1 club into a mid table league 2 outfit. All of which was done whilst McCall wasn’t here.

If we were going good and a new manager came in and stank the place out then the board might get a bye, but it’s happening far to often.

Maybe people will realise there’s more to football than sacking managers every 5 minutes and hoping for a miracle.

Agree with a lot of what you say, but from the outside it looks like we operate on a week to week / month to month basis. How can a manager set any other goals, other than getting a team ready for the next few matches? What can he put in place with regards to the youth set up?

If Rupp came out and said - “I’m here for the next 5/10 years and my aim is to buy back or build a new stadium. Build a training academy to take us up to category 2 status, meanwhile supporting the manager to build a winning team” then Rhodes would have no end of CEO’s willing to take on the project.

As it stands, who wants to come in when they don’t know if the owner is going to stick around? Certainly nobody of quality and most probably someone looking for a stop gap appointment, who’ll spend most of their time looking for their next role.

Beevers was set to join us - chased him for 2 years. Parky left. Persuaded him to follow there.

If I remember rightly him and Wheater scored 16 goals between them from CB. Took them up.

In my business, our Board doesn't just set high level targets, it creates the strategic vision for where we're going as a company, and how we measure success. Our longer term goals. That's then broken down into functional and lower level plans. Owners of those plans then agree what's needed to be successful in delivering against that strategy and if they're not given the tools, they either walk or refuse the targets they're given. The point being, our Board should have a vision and strategy for every element of the football club. Every football club is different and the level of responsibility that sits with the manager/coach, varies from club to club. At our club - who's responsible for signing players? Who decides whether to pursue a target, sets the terms for the player and any fee, who negotiates with the player/agent. Who sets the 'vision' for the type of player we want. Do we have certain guidelines within the squad for players ages, positions, abilities etc? I have no idea.

But our track record over recent years demonstrates to me that our club has no coherent plan or direction. I think our owner and Board abdicate responsibility by handing everything to the manager. We're stuck in the 1990s in our thinking.

Had similar. I believe it's called the "SMART" method. "Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Related Targets".

We haven't got one. I actually agree with the point of the post, I just slightly disagree who's job it is to put that direction in place.

Maybe Sikora? Makes sense if he’s training with the first team.

Not saying these are real rumours, however it shows that there are strikers out there and teams at our level competing for them. Wonder how closer we are to getting a striker in or any defenders in before Saturday? As they will need a few days training surely.

surely it's a combination.. board say what they want, what tools the manager has to do so. managers job to deliver on tools given and press the board for more. some saying it's the board's job would be up in arms when if the board wanted control of the dressing room.
