It really does come across badly. Every piece I've read about recruitment and every interview I've heard, he almost comes across as completely disinterested and like he sees recruitment as an annoying intrusion on his time.

He doesn't look or sound anything like the enthusiastic and ebullient bloke we all know from the past. Care-worn, weary, resigned, truculent, disillusioned perhaps. Sad.

 

It really is a pathetic setup. All totally reliant on recommendations to McCall from agents with their own interests at the forefront. A fully reactive approach which inevitably leads to us missing out on a whole host of players simply because we haven't the setup to identify players for ourselves.

I was watching Coventry last night, who were relegated to L2 the season we lost in the Playoff final. That was their kick up the backside, despite their off field issues, and they changed their recruitment which has lead to two promotions. We've been relegated and are still stuck in the dark ages. Is it any wonder our recruitment is perennially dire?

no, i know all too well what occurs and goes on during a transfer window - the lack of foresight and planning is what gets us in the position of scrambling around looking for scraps.

 

What happened to the days of I'll give the manager till Christmas to allow his players to blend, most of this hysteria is on the back of one result, yes it was pathetic but come on, some will be calling for his head if we get beat at Forset Green today.

 

Its deeper than one result against Lincoln though Bronco. Just when you think our recruitment policy couldn't get any worse, it has this summer.

The interviews McCall gives are sounding more desperate every time. Today, he has come across as not having a clue who he wants to add to a very limited squad we currently have.

all these players barring Watt and Sutton, who previously worked under McCall so should know him, have been here since he took control last season. giving him until Christmas to get them to blend is 10 months.

 

Am thinking of offering my services as a scout, After all I have a copy of Edins famous book "I Know Football" what could possibly go wrong?

 

I don't think it only applies to city but why surely in most cases it supplements a more selective and focused recruitment system?

Stuart makes it sound like it's our only way of working and it's so reactive and passive its infuriating.

 

That's the concern with agents queuing up to talk to Stuart after Tuesday night. They won't be contacting him with the names of quality players; they will be trying to take advantage of what they hope is a manager who might be starting to panic a bit. They will be offering him the equivalent of players like Anderson, Akpan and Henley who nobody else wants because they aren't good enough.

 

Stuart said months ago he was pestered

Is it, didnt see much of the hysteria ip until then, things are tough generally not just football and I believe the frustrations of Covid have on most things and I'm not saying I'm delighted with the players brought in so far in fact I'm baffled by the resigning of the likes of DHM, but most gave previous managers/coaches time to let the squad get why should it be any different for McCall.
Not read the article but someone commented we still have a 3rd of the salary cap to spend ?, at least give the guy until around Christmas it's only 14 or so weeks away.

 

I don't think anyone has a problem with agents calling us to offer players. Its the window, its gonna happen. There might be something an agent can offer that you've overlooked.

The problem is, we use this as our primary method of recruitment, where we leave our business in the sole hands of third parties in the hope that they pull a rabbit out the hat. Its amateurish at best.
