It's been in the news this week ever since the governement dropped the bombshell with a few hours notice that quarantine would be required for those returning from Spain.

So is anyone going abroad on holiday, are you deciding against a holiday at all or are you just going for a change of scenery within the UK.

Personally I will not be leaving the country, but as a family we are going to a caravan by the sea to have a change of scenery. We felt a caravan was good as we can keep ourselves to ourselves and mainly get out in the fresh air detached from work, and with Bradford in the top 4 consistently for Covid positive results, maybe getting away isn't a bad thing.

The main reason for not wanting to leave the country was if any family member was hospitalised, it would be bad enough here, nevermind in a country where you don't speak the language, with a potential nightmare scenario of me or the missus in hospital and the rest of the family refused a flight back due to the potential of carrying the virus, in my eyes it is not worth the risk, seeing the responses to the latest updates from Jet2, it seems there are however many who are happy to fly abroad and are upset that Jet2 have pulled the plug.

Got a week in a cottage booked in Purbeck, Dorset in September. Self catering and lots of walking in superb countryside near the sea. It's got a second bedroom so my daughter and partner may join us for a few socially distanced days.
No way I'll be going anywhere near a plane until this madness is over.

I live in the lake district , 20 min drive to Windemere etc , so really no need to travel far for a break etc . I know other people dont have the same options i have , but i would'nt consider travel outside the UK in the current situation .

Have to laugh when folk returning from Spain and having to isolate and saying this is gonna cost us £2K in earnings and won't be able to pay mortgage...FFS if you are struggling to make your mortgage payments why the hell are you flying off to another country especially when there is a pandemic sweeping the planet...?

We have had to cancel 3 holidays- Borneo in late March, Lake Victoria and Chobe in June and Italy next month.
We hope to spend a long weekend in Yorkshire at the end of September but no overseas plans until next year, crossing our fingers that there may be a vaccine by then

I couldn't think of a worse idea than to go on holiday to a foreign country whilst there is a threat of a second wave and there is no viable vaccine.

Currently on the east coast. Was always planned (daughter wedding - cancelled until next year and sons 21st - curtailed) and really enjoying it. Was planning on a couple of trips abroad including Poland but tbh I'm not bothering now.

Not so much the worry of Covid but the possibility of quarantine, cancellation and local restrictions. Its not something I perceive as part of a holiday so quite happy to pass for now and see how things pan out moving forward.

Anyone going abroad unless they are so rich that they can afford to stay indefinitely or if they come home are able to afford to isolate for two weeks needs their heads checked. If people want to go away it should be in the UK and even then I would say only under certain conditions such as being somewhere you can travel in your own private car and ideally only staying in single group residences rather than say a small B&B

You just know though people will keep flying off to Spain, ignoring all the guidelines for social distancing and then when just a single one of them gets it and gets on the plane infect everyone else. Then get home and not actually isolate for 14 days as required and the R rate which is already back over 1 in some places is just going to keep rising.

The article deals with that. They'd have to change over to British drivers this side of the channel.

Imports would be much easier to manage. The drivers can isolate themselves if they need to go abroad and they would be easier to track and test but you could also have it so Continental drivers would bring them to a designated drop off, most likely in Calais and then the British drivers would drive off the Ferry or Chunnel pick it up and turn right around. You could also actually get the airlines involved seeing as they won't be taking passengers. Turn them into freight airlines, the planes crew would fly out filled with any exports. When they land the crew are taken directly to a Hotel where they are isolated in the way F1 is doing with the teams. next morning picked up, the planes full with imports. They land at a UK airport, truckers are waiting to pick it up and take it to the UK destinations.

Obviously wouldn't totally cover all the trucker or airline revenues but better than having free travel for everyone and then having that cause another full lockdown

So what would you do let a 3k holiday go to waste ? Flight is still going , apartment is still open , shops and bars are open .

Was this one that was already pre-booked or were you one of the ones who decided to say 'Sod this I'm booking a holiday' as soon as restrictions were lifted?

If you booked after then sadly I would say its your own fault. You took a risk and now you either have to decide to throw away a £3k holiday and hope that either you can get a refund or insurance will cover some or all of it OR you have to accept that you will be unable to work for 2 weeks and maybe even lose your job for it. Its upto you. You can't have your cake and eat it through, you decided that a foreign holiday during a pandemic was the most important thing in life and you have to take the consequences for the good of everyone else

And if before why didn't you take the refund offered by travel firms when restrictions were first put in place? It has been pretty clear from day 1 of the lockdown that things weren't getting back to normal before 2021 because its going to either need a vaccine or herd immunity to allow things to go back anywhere close to normal. So again you took a risk by not getting a refund when you could and again you have to now make a choice of whats more important going abroad or not having to be in isolation for 14 days when you get back
