You can't punish a club for not obeying hypothetical regulations that don't exist. That's not how the world works.

There has been talk of a cap all summer teams have already been told players already contracted won’t count. If the rest of the league follow the cap then they will not put up with the unfair competition

We lack midfielders, not defenders. If Staunton can be seen as back up LB or 4th/5th choice CB what's the issue.

Spend the budget getting bodies into the midfield. A problem area in terms of quantity and quality.

'Talk' is not a regulation. And yes, contracted players probably won't count which is why we should be doing our business now - any signings made before the cap is voted in are excluded.

Theres nothing they can do about it if clubs like Mansfield want to sign players now. They're not breaking any rules.

Bolton paid between 150k to 200k to barrow for Evatt and his backroom team. A club who not so long ago were in dire financial straits.

As I said before, we still haven’t even decided what we are doing with last seasons season ticket money. All we have is a loose promise from Sparks we are close to signings.

Personally I wouldn't bet against them being back in trouble but who knows. I noted that Mrs Brittan had 1st charge on both the stadium and hotel at the time of the takeover, don't know if that's still the case but in the event of trouble...
Equally the new manager was going to be a stellar name so presumably Kevin Nolan said no. I think I'd be slightly nervous if I were a fan but we shall see, I do know their fans are somewhat underwhelmed with Evatt.

Seems to play football the right way passing and attacking style. but the pressure will be on at Bolton to do well, something which he might not have had at Barrow previously.

If you use the analogy, of what this country knew was coming in early February, yet those who run it, chose to ignore/do little about it, and they will get away with it for the next four and a half years! ‘They‘ will not be ‘punished’ for quite some time, and will hope people will forget!

Until the EFL rules are changed and implemented, then as long as owners work within the current regulations, then they can do so with impunity. If their finances then crumble, they and their fans will have to live with the consequences.

Quite right, him and Kevin Davies in recent years.
I was at the Checkertrade game at Bolton, first game after Brittan takeover and she came over to me as a piece of work so the charges on property don't surprise me.
Also now joined by Peter Kenyon, Google him. Ex Man U and Chelsea and recently tried to buy Newcastle. In 2008 in a press article described as"..the most odious man in football". That's why I said I'd be nervous if I were a Bolton fan.

First of all I discuss agree with Bradford City always going for managers on a free! That's weak...I did think Bolton would try to go for a people pleaser in Nolan but I have to admire them spending 250k on a management team that they really want.

Looks like the season won't be starting without fans and when fans are allowed back it will be limited, so the Bolton fans will be at home anyway and maybe that was another reason they didn't go for a crowd pleasers. Crowd pleasers are pointless with no crowd because you need the best man for the job.

Collins, Hopkins, Bowyer - No, No, No - if a manager is a another club that you want then get him...

I think Bolton will be fine and will more than like do what Plymouth did(another team that got the manager they wanted from another team), slow start then steam up the league.

    https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/18554979.bradford-city-salary-cap-will-stop-high-profile-signings/

We're really on one about this salary cap.

My feeling is because we don't think about outside the box that we are worried our bubble has burst eg hiring a people pleaser as manager, no crowds and then no signing a people pleaser of player or players(big name).

I don't want salary cap in the game but with covid 19 all clubs will need to think outside the box and do things differently but I worry for us because Rhodes seems to struggle with that hence the cheap season tickets for about 15 years.

for me it should be a cap based on turnover, that way big clubs can use their size to their advantage and smaller clubs don't have to worry about going bust. a flat wage cap (esp. low as it is) helps no one and hurts the quality of the league.

There’s already a rule regarding wages to turnover. I think it’s 65% in L2 and 55% in L1. The EFL just need to administer it properly. Clubs seem to easily get around it.

But seeing as they can OK club owners who 4 weeks later put that club into administration, I tend to think they’re as much use as a one legged man in an arse kicking competition.

We have that currently in Divs 1 and 2. It's known as the Salary Cost Management Protocol. Unfortunately there are loopholes in it which allow owners to subsidise their clubs over and above the SCMP cap. Remove those loopholes, tweak the way the SCMP cap is calculated and the problem would largely be fixed. Unfortunately as is usually the case in football, there are vested interests who wouldn't want that. The EFL needs to adopt a stronger stance on these matters for the good of football moving forward.
