Winston Churchill was also instrumental in creating a country for the Arab Muslims which is called Iraq.
This is a part of history that Lawrence of Arabia was involved in when with with the help of the Arabs he twice helped drive the Turks from that land.
A lot of these protesters are selective in remembering certain historic events.

If nothing else, it all appears to have moved the discussion away from the handling of the ongoing corona virus. That’s not to say the discussion shouldn’t be had, of course it should, but it seems to be a bit of a distraction, also setting people on each other. Will it still be being discussed in a months time though?

    I just don't get it.

I could go on a big rant but I can't be arsed. These statues are part of history, yes they had differing views, wrong views but it was a different world back then, you can't just erase it and forget it ever happened.

It's like all the stuff getting removed from streaming sites, Little Britain, Mighty Boosh, League of Gentleman etc. Then the celebs like Leigh Francis are coming out and apologising because they weren't aware it caused offence. It didn't cause offence, nobody even raised an eyebrow back then and shouldn't now.

Just to get stuck in here, its never about erasing history. No one is going through every single book and deleting their names from history. Its about admiring people who by todays standards would be locked up for crimes against humanity. Whilst you are correct at the time yes it was normal, it shouldnt be celebrated today. I am NOT saying that he shouldn't be up there. I'm am just explaining from the other side.

And with regards to 'blackface' and other things thats a changing of the times. I'm not a fan of censoring things as it shows the culture of the time. (Friends has poor attitudes towards being gay but it was 25 years ago! )
