I think it will be looked at but time it right when all shops are reopening etc and you will get that boost. Go to 17.5% and time it with shops opening, kids going back to school etc and you’ll get those receipts into the government purse quickly. Will be a huge boost then. Do it now and it will get lost in the nothingness of the next 6 weeks or so while we adjust to the new phases.

it was reduced after 2008 recession so can see it happening after this

Yeah does seem a failing on the government part. PAYE is an easy win I suppose. Hopefully you get some news soon

i can therefore understand why some will support the easing of restrictions if it means they can actually get out and earn some money if they have had next to no assistance since the LD. people will evaluate the risk and if they can operate within the new guidelines they’ll do it. There may well end up a divide a conquer between the furloughed and the not furloughed, I could see that down the line, there will already be a heightened ‘suspicion’ within society, a good breeding ground for deflection like that. that’s not my opinion btw, i’m glad measures are being extended, it’d be nice to just have an update or a bit of clarity, in order to plan ahead.

    From my accountants

Google HMRC and go to sign in. Then click on claim a grant for self employed.
Then click on check if you are eligible and then follow the instructions.
You will need your UTR number which is xxxxxxxx and maybe your NI number xxxxxxxx

I had a letter last week from HMRC saying the same even though I had retired last summer after 28 years self employed...UTR number was on the letter so I don't know where else you would find this...

You may have got an email giving you basic info (especially if they don't have all your details on file) but if not it doesn't open until tomorrow and you will be emailed when its your turn to apply.

And yeah it's going to take months even after everything is back to normal for self-employed incomes to recover. I know the ad industry is saying ad revenue won't pick up for about 4 months after everyone is back to normal so based on that I would say we are looking at 2-3 months for businesses to get back on their feet as obvious advertising spend is likely to lag behind as spending on ads won't be the main focus for companies at first

Apparently, a couple of our clients who are in the same boat as you have said they are expecting a payment from HMRC but not until June!

One of them has provided this link for you ..

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme

I asume it applies similarly north of the border.

Its getting to be that we can do quite a lot now, other than visit family.

The one on one rule that you cannot see both your parents at the same time, even if you are social distancing in a park for example is bonkers, especially when you can spend all day in an office with loads of colleagues, as I have been doing throughout the whole of lockdown.

On Radio 5 they were trying to work out why all these things could happen but still not see family and the end of it was it was all based around necessity. Basically seeing family will be low on the list as it isn’t necessary for anything else. Viewing houses is to open up the housing market,

A lot of expert opinions now about that the lockdown isn't as effective as they think. A lot of the lockdown is as you allude to, bonkers.
