100%.. like all of the governments messages it wasn't clear and if you don't make things clear to businesses then most will take advantage of that.

Many companies have taken the p out of it. Put people on Furlough reduced their wage by 20% and basically the government is paying their wage. Also then keeping some people on and reducing their wage by 15% making them people who are Furlough to worry if they will have a job to go back too. This shouldn't be allowed. All work or don't.

The Furlough seems good but when you step back and think about it it's not. How do you get them people back to work from a cash life support machine? Many will lose their jobs!

So if you employ a family member to clean your house they can now come round to your house to see you then?

So, we are not allowed to drive to Wales.

However, we can go to France and not have to do quarantine on the way back.

Can't get my head around that one!

By the sounds of it yes. As long as they are not showing symptoms.
Another example is Golf clubs can reopen this week but only to members who live in same house.i can’t imagine there are very many who do to be honest and imagine that will soon change

I’m guessing if you’re on TLL-STN then you’ll be booked with Ryanair. I think you’ve made the correct decision to defer, as difficult a decision that is. They should offer a refund, but you may have to jump through a number of hoops to get it.

I’ve got no idea why as a country we’re dithering on the 14 day quarantine, but the airlines are fighting it hard, as this would mean a near complete shut down of flying into the country (and this will presumably include the passenger services supplementing cargo flights).

If it does come in, then I would expect the vast majority of even the remaining passenger flights to be suspended for the duration of the restriction. From what I can tell, and this is by no means confirmed, it would mean you providing an address that you will remain at for the duration of the 14 day quarantine.

You’d surely hope not. But Raab this morning said work is to begin from Wednesday, which directly contradicts the Monday messaging from yesterday.

The briefing should either have been an hour long to explain properly, or a couple of minutes to explain that a detailed plan - unable to be properly expressed in this medium - is on the way tomorrow.

whilst, as a fisherman i agree with you, i can see how it would be difficult to start looking at every activity individually, prior to lockdown. If the golfers were left allowed to do their thing then you’d equally get another group arguing why they cannot continue, giving their own valid reasons. You also have to factor in that if all the keen golfers go out driving to courses, same as fishing etc, there’s more cars out, slight risk of accidents not to mention all the curtain twitchers and the FB vigilantes wondering why they are out and #public shaming in error. Extra trips for petrol etc etc. So whilst in terms of common sense I agree, I understand why a whole host of activities that probably would be low risk, were stopped initially, just to make controlling or should i say managing people, more easy.

Deaths do seem to be coming down and that is encouraging to see. A further 2-3 weeks lockdown will have really see that hit rock bottom I feel. We will probably see a spike tomorrow but if it’s around 500-600 as bad as that sounds, with any bank holiday lag wouldn’t be the worst figures in the world.

Let’s hope we’ve got it right at this side of the wave.

You don't half flip flop. You spent weeks talking about how the governments financial support wasn't good enough and couldn't be accessed easily enough. Now its too easy?

Interesting article which suggests that the "Stay Alert" nonsense isn't incompetent vagueness, but a deliberate strategy to shift responsibility away from the government and onto us. If things don't get better, or get worse, it'll our fault for not staying alert enough.
In other times I'd be inclined to dismiss that as a wild conspiracy theory. But with Dominic Cummins running the show from the rear it sounds Machiavellian enough to be spot on.

The only alteration appears to be the likely reduction to 60% of salary being paid by the government.

    Yep.

If you catch the virus now, you failed to stay alert. The Government has done all it can for you.

Another classic Donald Trump press conference, the ending being the equivalent a heckler beating a comedian at a comedy show or the kid taking his ball home because he can't be Ronaldo.

If it wasn't such a serious issue, the Prez's press conferences would brighten up anybody's day! :)

It's as though the Govt is already preparing the ground for a future public inquiry.

To date, it's been 'we've followed the best scientific advice' so when things go pear-shaped, blame the scientists not the Govt. Blame the scientists for not preparing for a viral pandemic; blame the scientists for delaying the Govt's response to the problem; blame the scientists for ignoring the impact of Covid 19 in the social care sector; blame the scientists for the lack of PPE, PPE which doesn't meet the health standards and buying the antibody tests which were purchased and didn't work.

Now the blame switches to us. If we have a second wave, it will be down to us. If there are Covid 19 hotspots in Malham or at coastal resorts, blame us for not staying alert; if there is the spread of infection on the underground getting to work, blame us 'cos we should be walking or cycling; if there are problems at primary schools, blame us because we haven't taught our 6 year olds about social distancing.

The Govt is shedding its responsibilities and its ammunition is just waiting to be directed.
