I really believe our lot are playing it by ear, I can't see how you can predict where this is going to go, there are no experts on Earth that fully understand this killer..to get it anywhere near right we are going to have to be patient ..

You are correct but it also runs a lot deeper than that.

Many Universities are heavily invested in developing their campuses, in many cases to provide accommodation for foreign students. The University I worked at has just completed a phase of their development, which when I left was budgeted at £130m. Replicate that sort of thing across maybe 50-60 higher education institutions across the UK and you have a massive problem of the higher education sector just not being able to service repayments on these investments without the overseas income.

I take your point @YungNath about the priority being given to overseas students. However, when the switch in the fees was made, turning Universities into private businesses effectively, then that became a necessary approach in a very competitive world market.

It will be interesting to see how higher education changes over the next year or so. It is a sector that is going to be particularly badly hit.
