Out of Contract Players

I think getting rid of Vaughan who has 2 years left on his contract will be easier said than done. Same with Guthrie there’s nothing to decide on him ,he’s here till June 21 unless someone else wants him.

 

I wouldn’t take Hendrie back either but McCall will. Watch this space.

 

Why would you want rid of Vaughan?

 

Agreed. Our top scorer by a mile and would get chances created for him under McCall who would use him in a totally different manner. If he was playing for a manager he liked I'm sure he wouldn't have jumped ship. Would be a real threat given the service. Absolute miracle he made double figures playing Bowyer Ball.

 

I think his best days are well behind him, giving a 31 year old a 3 year deal is dangerous. Take away his 4 penalties, which were well struck incidentally, and he scored 7 in 24 appearances. I think we need a younger sharper striker and if we were to keep Donaldson as well, a big percentage of our budget is taken up on two veterans.

 

Vaughan and Doyle were played incorrectly under Bowyer but under McCall, Wellens or any other manager that's decent with an attacking brain they would of been used correctly & scored more goals for us.

I like Donaldson but under McCall recently he's not starting so at this moment I doubt he will be here next season but Vaughan has 2 years left and he is our leading goalscorer.

Unless we pay him off he will be here.

 

Well we certainly won’t be paying Vaughan off so just have to hope he performs well, I just think it was a mistake to give him a 3 year deal and take up a huge percentage of the budget on two veterans. That’s why I’d free Donaldson as we will have to keep Vaughan.

Scores all the time at VP, based on this season's stats alone he'll smash 23 league goals in next season.

 

We already did ourselves a mischief by refusing Rory McArdle a long term deal and our defence has never been the same since.

Vaughan was a fairly safe bet, he scored 11 in half a season, far better than any other strikers at City in quite some time.

Zero chance we struggle to offload him if we need to - but not sure why we need to? Boreyer is a distant memory.

 

mental we let doyle and Vaughan go only to sack bowyer three days later, giving McCall fecking novak (who's doing ok in fairness) and Guthrie (who isn't) instead. Your remembering McCardle when he was at his peak for us. Two seasons on he was so dreadful for Scunthorpe against us he was subbed at half time. Scunthorpe offered a three year deal for him but it’s a real gamble giving long contracts to older players. Certainly Scunthorpe fans never rated him but didn’t see him at his best. Mind you they don’t rate McCall as a manager either.

 

I think if he would still want to come back I'd have him, under Mccall I imagine he wouldn't be anywhere near the frequently pissed off and isolated figure he was under Bowyer. As I've said, those at board room level need to be absolutely ashamed at how they've managed the club. Any word on whether we're finally gonna get a chief scout in as that to me shows how poorly the club is run. Our 'European scouting network' may have just been Edin in a track suit but it was actually more than what we have now which is a disgrace imo.

 

I'd offer O'Donnell, Reeves and McCartan‬ a new deal. Can only see O'Donnell wanting to stay though to be honest.

A lot of crap in this squad so the more we get rid of the better in my opinion.
