If so they have set a very dangerous precedent.

It's OK, they threw Bury out to compensate for the lenient way they treated Bolton.

It's not quite as simple as that and no they haven't let them off. It wasn't the EFL's decision. It was an independent disciplinary panel (appointed perversely by the EFL!) which gave Bolton a penalty of 5 points for Bolton not playing the last game of last season against Brentford and for also postponing this season's game against Donny. For some reason the didciplinary panel suspended the point deduction whilst waiting for the Donny game to be rescheduled. The EFL appealed the sanctions applied by the disciplinary panel saying they regarded the punishment as 'too lenient' but lost their appeal.

The EFL is not fit for purpose and really have to get their act together and make it clear what sanctions should be applied to clubs under what circumstances. The fact that their own rules aren't clear on this makes a mockery of their role in regulating the sport. If they don't we'll have more of these instances in the future.

I thought the point deduction was suspended for 18 months rather than until the rescheduled game

From what I was told, the game which was unilaterally postponed by Bolton was their home game against Donny which has now been rescheduled towards the end of the season.

All my best players are out. I will postpone the game so as to not make my reserve team play better opposition. If Doncaster don’t win they will be knarked off
