The real 'spongers' are the tax evaders, not the poor on benefits.

My view is if you are willing to make one in and work hard then i'll back you all the way whether you are at the top or the bottom. If you're a lazy work shy dosser then go whistle for your benefits.

Such a broad, one statement fits all, response and one that I disagree with. Not all, as I know from experience, live this life you portray. Living of benefits, living a life of tech, alcohol or cigs.

This is the narrative they are fed and are happy to believe.

    Workers paying tax = goodies
Spongers sponging YOUR tax money for nothing = baddies

No black, white or grey. They're all drinking and smoking your money living the good life for free .

Dear Maggie would have wiped the floor with Corbyn and his left wing comrades, just as she did with Michael Foot

It's admirable that you overcame adversity but unless there are other details you're not giving me not going on exotic holidays and downgrading your house whilst still receiving financial support from a loved one does not even remotely reflect the poverty some of the poorest people in this country face.

I was watching a documentary a while back which covered poverty in the uk and not all of the cases were self inflicted. There was one women who was involved in an abusive relationship which eventually resulted in her and her child having nowhere to live. This meant that she was moving from location to location with barely a penny in her pocket and she couldn't go out and work for the simple reason that she couldn't afford childcare. This wasn't a case of "yeah I'll give the latest iPhone a miss and I'll be aliright", she was genuinely poor. So poor, that the documentary showed her taking her son to an indoor playground where she takes him once a year as a treat. Do you know how much it cost to get in? £3.

She was then in tears because it brought her son happiness and she couldn't afford to take him there more often but hey, her teeth were sparkling fùcking clean. A few quid might seem insignificant to me or you, but for others it's a big commitment which is why covering a few basic expenses for those in need can go a long way towards improving their life quality.

Moving on, in another episode there was a man who was living on the streets. He made some questionable decisions to put himself in that scenario in the first place but just like you all those blue moons ago was desperate to change his life around but couldn't because he didn't have any form of ID.

Fact is, there are people out there who have it bad. There are people out there who have it worse than you can imagine. To suggest that we shouldn't help these people because "i was alright Guv" is a selfish attitude to have. To then tell me how you had no luxury's when you were going through financial trouble but others living in poverty can afford all the latest technology aswell as being able fund a drug fuelled lifestyle is also extremely ignorant.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who misuse the benefit system, don't want to help themselves and do spend all their money on pointless stuff. It certainly doesn't represent every poor person in Britain so stop pretending it does.

You have taken everything out of context.

I originally replied to a post from Craven Cottager who seems to think it was the Tories fault that there are people who cannot afford toothpaste for their kids. Were these same people then able to afford toothpaste under Labour governments?

I still stand by my point that nobody on universal credit cannot afford a 99p tube of toothpaste.

Wont go into much detail. But I work in finance and deal all day with people who are experiencing financial difficulties, some short term, some long term and it never ceases to amaze me the things most of these people will not cut down on.

I spent some nights a few years ago helping out with soup runs for prostitutes and homeless people. I really felt for these people. But Craven Cottage implied that there are a lot of kids in this country who have poor dentistry habits because of poverty. Dont buy that, its the parents who cannot be bothered looking after kids and taking them to dentists, which is still free for kids.

We will never agree on politics mate.

People take things out of context to suit their own agenda. If you can't afford basics like toothpaste you have your priorities wrong.

So tonight we have someone who you can't believe a word they say v someone who promises the moon on a stick to elect them and will release their manifesto alongside the Argos Christmas Catalogue.

I think I'll watch Wales v Hungary instead.

That maybe the case, what you seem to be forgetting is the brexiteers have only the Tories to deliver the referendum result, you know the one that 17.4 m voted for in one of the largest turn outs ever.
So I dont think leavers will be taking a great deal of notice, we know Corbyns stance, go back to the EU negotiate another deal then stand on the side of remaining, Id suggest any deal Corbyn negotiated woud be very near to our present situation whilst we are still members, you couldnt make it up.
And I'll be at the game shouting our club/team on, possibly the only thing we agree on :).

I don’t think either will come out of it well tonight, but I’m recording it and watching it after football and will try to keep an open mind. Most likely end up thinking wtf like usually with these two.
