In the context of what you said i.e. comparing the UK approach to the banking crisis to the US approach, it's clear from the facts on a like-for-like basis that the UK approach increased our country's debt proportionately more than the US approach despite what you said earlier. And I see you've now changed what you said earlier after being found out.

I don't know the significance of the US debt clock in that context since it includes much more than the US national debt. It includes private debt, mortgage debt and lots more. It's irrelevant in any debate on the Tory govt's austerity programme other than as a poor attempt at obfuscation.

Nationalising Broadband is a crackpot communist plan that would see millions of peoples pensions suffer because so many pension funds invest in BT. £715 million was wiped off the value of BT at one stage after Labours potty announcement.

The thought of Corbyn and McDonnell running our country scares the living daylights out of me more and more each day.

How any rightminded person in Britain could contemplate voting for and helping these dangerous lunatics into power is totally mindblowing.

Hyperbolising everything to the greatest possible extent doesn’t make it more or less true. Nothing communist about it.

BT’s share price fell a tiny fraction (not even to the lowest level in a week) and you’ve completely lost your head.

    Sorry, but this is nonsense.
Labour inherited a deregulated banking system from the Thatcher era. It's true that they didn't reverse the Tory deregulation, but had the Tories been in power in 2008 they'd have deregulated even further and the damage would have been even greater.

If you recall, Gordon Brown's prompt and decisive response to the crash was was widely praised internationally for preventing it from getting worse and limiting the damage.
Brown's big mistake was in not calling a snap general election in October 2008, which he'd have won.

Corbyn was on Andrew Marrs this morning and saying dentist check ups should be free and went on to say they could actualy save money in the long run is that level 1 dentist charges ?.,
Id suggest maybe parents taking more interest/responsibility in their children's dental care that would also save money in the long run.
As a child we were always asked have you brushed your teeth before going to school and also at night before going to bed, its not hard but at times can become a battle of will's, and yes I do still have my own teeth ;).

    Absolutely right.

When big bang happened in the mid 1980's, deregulation became the order of the day in the stock exchanges and particularly in the banking and building society sectors which gave rise to the merging of investment and retail banking. Even Nigel Lawson who was the chancellor at the time said much later that the Tory govt of the time went too far in deregulating the banking sector and that there was pressure to go even further. Lawson blamed some of the fall out from the global financial crisis in 2008 on big bang deregulation.

I don't personally leave the Labour party out of this. Whilst Gordon Brown was lauded around the world particularly in the major economies, for co-ordinating the G8 response to GFC and avoiding it becoming even more serious, he as chancellor could have done something to improve regulation especially in the investment banking sector. Unfortunately, he chose not to do so.

Under this government you'll find that many parents on universal credit can't afford toothpaste or tooth brushes for their kids. I regularly drop off supplies at food banks.

You as I were brought up in a very different age no one had any spare brass but responsible parents made sure their children got wash/bathed and other every day aspects of personal hygiene and that included brushing their kids teeth.
Dental care for children is still free.

Exactly. Your kids should always come first. There is nobody on universal credit that cannot afford a tube of £1 toothpaste a week as our friend Craven Cottager suggests. Utter nonsense from a misguided Tory basher

This intriguing discussion between you and Tony Wilkinson reminds of something.

I was going to buy a homeless man a packet of biscuits this morning until I noticed the cheeky b@stard already had 50 pence in his McDonald's cup. He could clearly afford it, so I told him iv'e got to go and left in a fit of rage as he was blatantly trying to con me into making a donation that was worthless to him.

There's absolutely no way on this Earth that covering basic expenses in the way of toothbrushes, toothpaste, snacks etc can help those living in poverty, especially when they are all fag smoking alcoholic's who have access to the latest IPhone.

I mean seriously, have a word with yourself. You're obviously not quite there with reality, which isn't exactly surprising given the decades of media rhetoric you've been subject to.

Think it's more a case that we ARE there with reality, there is no reason for any able person to flirt with poverty, you get out what you put in, folk should be given a hand up not hand outs...

Ive been on the breadline many moons ago after the collapse of my business

Because I was self employed I was entitled to any dole. My wife supported us until I got a job.

We went years without holidays whilst I paid back my business debts. I downsized house to keep a roof over our heads.
My family went years without a holiday.

But do you know what. We always made sure my daughter had all the basics, including yes, toothpaste.

So I stand by my point that nobody on universal credit is unable to afford toothpaste if they sacrifice luxuries and budget properly

There's a good discussion to be had on this subject. And i can see both sides of the debate having being brought up in a city like Bradford and worked around social housing areas for parts of my working career. I see disadvantaged people everyday of my life, from the homeless beggar on street corners (or traffic lights these days) to the single parent family just trying to survive and make ends meet. Then i see the folk living on handouts and benefits with no concept of the value of money and no desire whatsoever to ever work for what they are given, part of the benefits culture that manifests itself within the lower class indigenous populous of this country over the decades. Where £100 trainers and latest tech are purchased with no real concept of what priorities should be in life. Food on the table or a pair the latest Nikes?
One of those scenarios where you wish you had a magic wand could make sure the benefits went to people who really are in ned of them. In this country as it stands no person should ever have to sleep rough on the streets or be in need of a hot meal or medical assistance, yet no one on benefits should be kitting out their young uns in overpriced sportswear or be allowed to sit at home doing the fk all while living off the back of others. In fact bollocks to any spongers out there, your unwarranted benefits could so easily go to helping others in need.
