Problems are mounting at Macclesfield Town, with an impending players strike, a winding up order outstanding and problems with substandard floodlights.

The similarities with Bury are concerning, with an absent owner continually making promises and then failing to deliver. With both players and non-playing staff threatening strike action, which would include this weekend's FA Cup match, the prospect of being thrown out looms.

So if Macclesfield get a winding up order do those of us who bought tickets for the recent postponed game become creditors ;).

I don't think they will go through with the strike, I get the feeling they think they can win that game and know that the £36,000 would actually give them more chance of being paid.

That's not to say they won't do so in another game and any other game would be in EFL competition which would force their hand.

I notice that Bolton still haven't received a penalty for not playing the Brentford fixture last season, so Macclesfield doing something like this in the league would yield an unknown punishment, as Bolton should have been the warning to others but the EFL are dragging their feet on the matter.

Also you wonder why clubs get into financial trouble, look at the TV fixtures this week. Hayes & Yeading v Oxford is a Sunday afternoon game on TV, Whilst Dullwich v Carlisle and Harrogate Town v Pompey are evening kick offs on a Friday & Monday. I suppose we should be thankful the Salford love in has died down a bit.

The players did strike today but the game went ahead with the youth team. They lost 4 nil and fans were protesting outside the ground.

They have the 2nd round week off, I would guess if we fail to beat Shrewsbury, we will be playing them that weekend.

If so, hope they are still on strike and play the youth team against us!

    EFL Statement: Macclesfield Town

Edit: It is my understanding that, as things stand, Macclesfield Town players are not insured and, therefore, are unable to train or play. With no indication of any imminent resolution, to these problems, it seems that the EFL believe that the club are unable to effectively compete in the league. Sources in Macclesfield suggest that unless the EFL get the assurances they are seeking by tomorrow, then an announcement is expected on Thursday, that may well see Macclesfield Town suspended from the Football League.

"It is understood that there has been some challenges with the banking process that has delayed further payments"

What challenges are these? That there is no money..

Their owner has claimed that there are delays to the money transfers he has been making; he's also tried to blame Brexit.

Its like listening to Steve Dale all over again. One excuse after another.

The way things are going, no-one is getting relegated this season.

Such a shame as it is another club that survives on a small gate attendance, which must affect their budget.

It's a shame for the club but it's another illustration of the gulf between the PL 'haves' and the lower league 'have nots'.

The reality for Macclesfield is that they've been a yo-yo club between the Conference and Div 2 for the last 20 years or so. They've done well over the years to run their club on attendances of 2,000 or so but it looks as though time has now run out for them. The EFL agreeing to pay the players something from the solidarity money due to the club suggests that trust is low between the EFL and the Club. Their latest statement suggests to me that short of some wealthy benefactor arriving at Moss Rose, we are all watching another club leave the EFL.

The latest I'm hearing is that the insurance may have been sorted, at least enough so they can play tomorrow night's match against Shrewsbury Town.

Its quite possible that the game against us put a few in the shop window as scouts would have been swarming the place in view of their circumstances. I suspect a few raised their game to impress potential employers.
Still we weren't good enough on the day.
