I would just like to mention how beautifully The Last Post was played just before the minute's silence this afternoon.
I don't know who played it, but I think it is the best rendition I have ever heard.

    Yes, very moving.

I also had tears in my eyes.

I'm 71 so I know about the sacrifices that my Dad and his generation made.

Not sure it's appreciated by some of todays youngsters.

I think youngsters can't be lumped together in this. I know my own children appreciate it.

Most kids round me were very respectful of the playing of the last post and were the same in the minutes silence, Believe me they get it and most will pay respects at armistice events

I stood up and took my hat off, something people of my generation do automatically. I also wouldn't dream of either moving about or uttering a word. Unfortunately, this didn't apply to several people around me in the kop. I don't know if they don't care or don't know what's expected of them. Nevertheless, it was a moving moment.

I'm only 23, and I can tell you for now alot of us understand the sacrifices men and women have made for us, some more recent, some along time ago. Every Rememberence Sunday I pay my respects, order my sunday league team to do a minutes silence pre kick off, things like that. The last post is a very poignant music sound no matter what age, but I agree, others similar to my age dont understand the debt and gratitude the fallen, and active soldiers, deserve.

I agree that it was beautifully played. It helps that it was played on a cornet rather than a bugle because it's easier to hit the notes accurately, I'm told. But still very movingly played.
What I don't understand is why it was done this weekend. Remembrance Sunday is next week.

Want to echo the comments on how beautiful and moving the Lat Post was.
I was moved and tearful. Also confused when the whistle was blown at the start of the minutes silence, as we're many others who started to clap. Probably clapped to applaud the perfectly played rendition?

Yes you remember and respect those who fought but at some stage you also need to move on. I do think there have been instances where world wars have been politicised for peoples own gain. Not hating Germany doesn't mean you don't appreciate sacrifices. I've got down off my soapbox

We've had more than our share of problems with the sound system over the years but yesterday it behaved and a truly great rendition of the last post was delivered with perfection.
Dignity and respect delivered all round.

Brought a lump to my throat . Always moves me, arrived in JCT as it started and myself and others paused at the top of the steps in respect with other late arrivals.

I'm 40 and i've always paid my respects, understood the sacrifices given by those who died and were involved in all the wars of our modern lifetimes.
I will always make sure my son who is 7 will understand and respect the same as i do.
Which is why i say its the parents of todays kids who are the ignorant ones.
The 30-50 year olds who are too busy looking at their phones or tv's, who are to blame for the shameful ignorance of our war veterans, elderley who lived through the hard years of war, and the memories of those who gave up their lives
