That's my point though. Referees aren't the best at this level and BRE put himself in a vulnerable position that could have been easily avoided. We were cruising at that point and there was no need to make a tackle whatsoever, regardless of whether anyone thinks it was a refereeing mistake or not.

    In half a dozen games?

Nobody has turned Woods from or into anything, you just made a ridiculously premature judgment on a young lad and are now trying to back track like it's some miracle of coaching he's now improving.

Their red card changed the game. We weren’t great until that happened. Bowyer needed that result with many of the fans who remain unconvinced he is the man. After 30 mins they sorted out centre midfield and Carlisle stopped getting a free run at the centre halves. Connolly was excellent. We need to repeat that performance consistently.

    Absolutely, Pritchard was excellent today.

I agree that there was clearly an issue with the Cooke/Palmer partnership for the first 25 minutes or so, particularly a 10 minute period where we were totally overrun - interesting to note that the partnership has been hailed as a great success though, considering how good they were ON the ball - something I'm not sure anyone doubted.

Hopefully that partnership can grow, because they're our two best central midfielders, the problem is I can see better teams than Carlisle exploiting us.

I think it'd be wise to stick another body in there (pritchard?) when we play the better teams who play a 3 man midfield. But against teams as poor as carlisle I think those 2 in a 442 will be fine. Let's just hope neither get injured as the replacements aren't worth thinking about.

I sort of think that, but feel Bowyer would be easy prey if we switched from a 4-4-2 and lost to a decent side.

Unfortunately there are a few people waiting for him to get something, anything wrong - and even if it's the right thing to do, if we lose we inevitably 'shouldn't have changed formation'.

I think as long as retains the width in tougher away fixtures the an extra man in midfield can work. It's when we look narrow that we become completely ineffective. Obviously that only means one up front but I'd have no doubts that both Vaughan and Donaldson could operate well in that role.

    Who is "the man"?

Apparently, a Man City fan wanted Pep sacked after their Norwich defeat. Maybe we should go for him? Problem is he's likely to be back in favour, after today

Would you employ one up front at home to Swindon? They're likely to play 4-4-2, or at least they did away at Cambridge (who played 3-5-2 and lost).

I think the desperation for 4-4-2 was based around getting width into the side. As long as Bowyer sticks with that it then I don't think he'd face much scrutiny for playing a slightly more conservative 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 away from home, especially when we come up against the likes of Swindon and Exeter.

I agree, but we play Swindon at home in two weeks - away, I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid at a 4-5-1, but at home? According to some, we shouldn't adapt our play (read: fear) anyone.

I wouldn't play one up front at home to anybody in this division, that's why I specified "away matches" and even then it's only against the perceived tougher teams in the division.

Agree Jon. We said the same at the time.

Have not seen the red card back as yet but it's one of those that you see time and time again where somebody has lost the ball and stretches/lunges to get it back and you know they are gonna walk in this day and age...

I'd stick with 4-4-2 at home to Swindon, and I'd play Cooke & Palmer - but if we get overrun and fail to get a result, I certainly won't be blaming Bowyer.

It's a risk, but one we should probably be taking at home - if we get hammered, at least we lived by the sword.

Is it reckless, out of control or overly aggressive? Those are the words they use these days. If it was the other way around we would have been screaming for him to be off...like we did for their players second yellow...

For all the praise of the wingers (rightly so) I thought the best cross of the game came from Wood for the goal that was ruled out for handball. First time cross on the run and it was perfect. Shame Vaughan’s initial header didn’t go in as it was worked really well.

Overall I’m happy with Wood at LB he’s looking like a solid player with plenty of pace and stamina to get up and down the pitch.

In Wood and Pritchard I think we've stumbled across a very strong partnership for this level. Both are full of work but both also possess the quality needed when delivering the ball in the final third.

Yep agreed, same point I was making in an earlier post - NKP basically rugby tackles Donaldson as they go for the ball.

Strange the officials ‘spotted’ a very debatable handball to give a free kick, yet couldn’t see the rugby tackle immediately preceding it.

Somebody 50 yards away disallowed that goal. The linesman 20 yards away was happy with it.
