City v Northampton Sept 7th

according to those around me, we are saints and never do anything that may be deemed unsportsmanlike.. there were a few blank and silent faces when i mentioned the masters of the dark arts in tony mcmahon and dean windass though. every team does it, every team's fans that it is done against hate it - but when you scrape a 1-0 away from home after a poor performance and the last few minutes of injury time are taken up by your 'keeper and full-backs walking to the ball when out of play then nobody cares. it's swings and roundabouts for all teams.

 

Certainly got high hopes for Ismail on yesterday's showing..

Ah but with regards Bradford City fans and our club we are allowed a little bias .

 

RE betting, I can't imagine there will have been much money turned over on our game to be honest. We are in League Two and there aren't many firms offering prices on first goalscorer at this level. Even then, of the money traded on the game, how much of it was on Donaldson to score? Won't have likely to have been much. If it was a high profile game then there would be higher volumes traded and I think the argument would hold more weight.

I think, more likely, the action just took place so quickly, in a crowded box, someone had to make a judgement call, and got it wrong, but it will be corrected by the dubious goals panel.

 

I don't think he was any worse than any of the Northampton players, beyond that I just think he plays with an edge of aggression to him which means he gets worked up about everything. A red card waiting to happen at times but also v enjoyable to watch

 

in the end we deserved the win for the second half performance, and last 20 minutes or so in particular.
Ismail changed the game when he came on, and suspension not withstanding he's got to be close to starting.

my favourite goalkeeper O'Donnell made a couple of terrific saves. and that tackle from Connor Wood, blimey. that's a goal saver.

first half though was shocking. as poor as I've seen from us for some time. we've got to start quicker, and play with a higher tempo.

as for the time wasting... I don't get overly angry about it when the opposition do it, becauser I know full well I'd be wanting us to do exactly that if we were ahead.

 

Teams that waste time with more than ten minutes to go really are thick.

There's playing down the clock when you're likely to win, then there's wasting your own time if and when the opposition equalise or go ahead.

Northampton Town shot themselves in both feet.

 

Always nice to get one over Keith Curle.

 

Keith Curle is a terrible manager. really poor. although when he gets sacked it'll be more to do with his skin complexion than his ability, I'm sure.

 

Wasn't there a bit of beef with him when he was at Carlisle and we signed Wyke?

 

Not been on since last week. Impressed with Wood, Richards-Everton & O'Donnell. Great impact from Zeli Ismail also.

Hope we start Cooke from the off on Saturday. My only pet peeve is, why does the keeper not release the ball early when we have players ready to bust their gut forward?

 

On the o'donnell point, i dont think he trusts his own distribution at times hence how he'd rather just aim a punt downfield or the simple drop it at the centre halves feet.

The full backs don't split wide or quick enough on the other hand. When they receive the ball they dawdle and don't charge up the wing when they have acres of space in front of them. The full backs are a problem with our tempo issues at the minute all too keen to turn back. Think they have played well but something to improve on.

 

Very quiet on here this week. Is that because we won?

 

It's about the same, but with 3 or 4 extremely vocal posters retreating into their shells.

Without their constant rhetoric, there are fewer debates (arguments) and posts pointing out their obvious 'errors'.
