Did he have successful first season though? Blackpool fans think he's shit.

Wasn't his stats 3 goals in 37 appearances? I think that is pretty successful for a winger, particularly if you compare it the last 6 or 7 we've had and the fact it was his first full season in pro football. I know it isn't a wholly inspirational signing, but I certainly won't judge until he's had a decent run in the team

Funny thing is, Blackpool fans are probably saying the same thing - "all the Bradford fans are saying Scannell is shit...!"

 

Lets be honest, Scannell has been a huge disappointment. Injuries haven't helped but when he's played he hasn't looked the player that his reputation says he should be. His stats are poor and he didn't look interested, very rarely got a ball in or took a defender on. No great loss and he will have been a high earner. Lets see what we bring in.

Find it strange that no mods have moved this to the transfer rumour thread. That's all it is at the moment and if this had been done by anyone else but the boss you'd have done green worded dull essay and merged.

 

while people are quite right in saying it's not a major loss based on what Scannell has done for us, it is a loss based on the number of wingers we have in the squad. we probably needed one more without him leaving, so we'll be very short if this deal is concluded.

I hope we have a replacement lined up.

Yep. Any lingering 'sadness' at losing him is really about pining for the player we thought we were getting, but never actually saw. His stats are terrible, but beyond that he looks to have lost his pace and can't beat a man. His crossing isn't up to much either - Woods puts across many more and far more dangerous crosses even when he's playing left back. even Patrick has looked no worse when he's played on the right. And that's a damning indictment.

On the pace thing, it MIGHT be just down to working back to fitness. But he broke his back last season and spent a long time out. That sort of injury and that long out, at his age, is going to take a toll.

Even if he becomes a star at Blackpool, we aren't really losing anything. Getting his wage off the books will be material for the business we can do. We can bring in at least 2, maybe even 3. And the team needs strengthening. How we do it will be key. As I say, Pritchard doesn't excite me, he isn't the quickest and I'd have to think there are better loan options out there. But if he joins we'll have to see how he does.

However, does GB see that as a priority? I think we have to assume that a traditional 4-4-2 is not the way GB sees us playing.

If and that's all my assumption is, then that midfield general is absolute must.

Spot on. If we are not going to go wide for creativity, it will have to come through the middle, and we need a really good tough midfielder in there, in order to allow the creative midfielders to get forward and service Vaughan and Donaldo.

 

In the suites last weekend Henley said that Scannell missed some training due to a back spasm. If that was the case then it questions whether he could potentially have missed more of this as well.
