    Agree, said the same on the Cooke thread. A couple of ropey wins aren’t going to convince Bowyer 4-4-2 is the way to go, he likes 4-3-3.

    A lot of the same people who want 442 complain about “hoof” which sometimes is the consequence of it.

    Same a proper 4-3-3 allows you to match anyone up in the centre and also have width, when done properly.

    We didn’t play 4-3-3 at the start of the season regardless of what some say. It was a very narrow diamond with Doyle at the tip, it was never going to work.

    You could argue that only having three in the middle, yet three up top’, makes the ‘over the top’ ball an attractive proposition. You have fewer choices in the middle of the park and if the opposition set up as 4-5-1 you get crowded out. You have little time and options, so the ‘long ball’ becomes a default tactic. Beware of 4–3-3 it also has limitations.

    Has to be play Cooke over akpan. He could either go 442 with Cooke playing a narrow left midfielder, or 433/451

    Yeah, that wasn't 433. That was a diamond. I'm not a fan of that system in particular, but if you use it then the key positions are the number 10 role and your full backs - who have to give you width. Having Doyle at 10 and a right footed left back, was never going to work. Having Wood at left back, and possibly Cooke in the number 10 role would probably work better, but i'd rather go 433. It has so much more flexibility.

    Yes but rather than a traditional marching band formation they like to play in a 442 formation as much as possible.

    A draw wouldn't be the end of the world tomorrow. Forest Green are a decent side at this level, it could conceivably even turn out to be our first loss.

    Having said that, FGR aren't exactly prolific in front of goal, especially since Doidge left and they allegedly aren't creating many chances either. A chance for another clean sheet and a narrow 1-0 victory?
