He is a winger. You're probably best ignoring the posters calling for him to replace any of the central midfielders.

 

Thought I’d imagined him playing for us then, good to know

The player I remember would be no good as a CM.

 

I imagine he's played behind a lone striker so now park sees him as the answer to our central midfield issues.

The bloke I remember couldn't tackle his dinner and would be continually bypassed by any half decent league two CM clogger.

A midfield partnership of Devitt and Palmer would make our already lightweight midfield even weaker. Plus I don't think he's a traditional CM anyway, more of a Clarke/Payne type and Mcarten is already occupying that position.

Anything else? These all sound like plan C options to me. The only midfielder we should be interested in signing is a defensive one who can tackle.

 

No such thing as a scapegoat, there's players that are good enough and players that aren't. Why should anyone accept players that aren't good enough?

 

When was he at City Wilsden? I can't remember him at all, might be my age though Was he any good for us?

I'd be happy with Devitt but if it's a choice between him and a ball winner then it's the latter every time.

 

They also need to have possession to enable those contributions you want. The only possession we'd have with that midfield is from goal kicks!

Have a word with Pep, see if he fancies dropping Fernandinho or Rodri to play David Silva there because he's more of a goal threat?

 

Agree. very useful addition to the squad but not instead of a dominant force in the middle

 

Might not be the popular opinion but I thought he deserved a contract as well, so that's at least 2 off us. I think there is a player in there, many around me disagree, that's fine, we all have opinions.

 

Not sure about Devitt returning he didn't impress me first time round and I fail to see what he could possibly do to change my view.
The jury is out on this rumoured signing for me.

 

An all action tough tackling centre mid is the absolute priority. We beat Oldham by bypassing their midfield which allowed us to play to our strengths, namely Vaughan and Donaldo being too good for L2. Defensively we were solid which allowed us to cope with them dominating in the middle. However against better teams we're likely to be punished for having such a soft centre. I think Palmer is a ultimately a creative ball player who can help out defensively but too weak in the tackle to be considered a ball winner. Put a gary jones type next to him and I think we would see a lot more from him.

The Doyle situ worries me as if he starts banging them in for Swindon, I hope to christ we dont recall him in Jan because it would be back to square one trying to shoehorn him in the team. If he performs for them we should be leaning on Swindon to make it a permanent move for a nominal fee. Hes off our books, can go somewhere where he feels happy and we can sign players who actually work for us now and not oldham two seasons ago.

 

If he was cheap then yes, if he's on good money I'd have drove him down the jobcentre myself.

 

As I say we are stuck with Palmer who plays very deep add another deep lying player and ir is far to negative.we need a contribution from midfield

Fernandinho/Rodri are more crucial to the way they play than almost any attacking player. They're the foundation for all that fancy stuff.

 

Not if we play 4-4-2. If Bowyer goes rogue and starts playing a packed midfield then i get the need for someone like Devitt but our priority is a Josh Cullen type player.
