He was brought in under Rahic and Hopkin made his decision on Riley whilst Edin was still here. Seems like you're just picking bits from the whole picture to suit your argument. Maybe they are ashamed of themselves too. However I think giving someone a second chance isn't a bad thing.

I didn't see them performing much better under Bowyer and JR though.

Bit harsh on Windass if he was whimpering he was doing it in Hull. In fact there's so much to challenge in that post that I wouldn't really know where to begin.

Regardless of what went on last season J Riley is a City player this season and I want him to do well for no other reason that it benefits the team as a whole.
I understand the bitterness and resentment towards last season's rosta of players. They let themselves, the club and us, the people who pay their wages, down.
But I'm personally prepared to draw a line under all of this if they show the commitment to the cause this season. If they don't show spirit (regardless of their abilities) then they can expect the grief they'll no doubt get.
But until then, I won' t be booing or heckling any player for what he's done in the past. It serves no purpose than undermining them and the team as a whole.

    Well said !

    On a tangent (unlike me :D !! ) .........
Many of us EVERY year Pressure clean the Patio in early Spring. God knows what happened LAST year - But it's a mess. We hope it will last until NEXT year - but anything can happen, at any time, even early on :(
The FACT remains ..... It's a clean slate (Patio ;) ) and a good starting point.

Totally agree, the constant bitterness about last season has got to the silly stage now. Its almost like we've never been relegated before........its happened countless times. Players in all those times have come and gone but you start the new season with hope and optimism or whats the point?

I just find the whole situation bizarre. Open abuse, booing and heckling was the norm in the midst of battle last year when there was still time for them to pull themselves up and get themselves out of it. (like the wombles did). Nothing was wrong with that, in fact if you weren't gorging on abusing them like everyone else you were attacked for not doing so. One of the players decides to run about a bit in some friendlies and suddenly he becomes a protected species. Got to nurture him and find the footballer we all know is there. Now dissent is not allowed, the slate has to be clean and no-ones allowed to go off-message. The fact is you're all getting too giddy about Riley. Those pointing this out are not some traitors undermining project Bowyer. They're just pointing it out.

Are we? I’d actually say quite the contrary. From what I am reading, it’s merely just some offering an alternative prospective to others.

I don’t think anyone is disillusioned that Riley hasn’t delivered on the expectation he arrived with. At the same time, what I read is that some recognise there are various circumstances that could have impacted that and simply happy to move on from the past and look to the future. If this includes giving Riley a chance, so be it.

Errrrrrr ... Please point to ONE post which suggests any 'giddyness'.
All some are saying is it's a new season, so a new beginning.
Hell - Have you got the relegation 'cooking sherry' out already ?
We too are 'just pointing it out' :)

I don't think its because we were relegated, as you say it has happend many a time over the years, but maybe many fans myself included reflect on why we were relegated, like it or not that is down to one man thinking he knew football, and would not take advice from people who were employed to do just that offer advice, in fact sacking some who had a different opinion to him.

I agree...maybe its me but the mans gone, i've moved on. The players who played here last season and are still here have to move on also. Holding on to all that hate and bitterness will just ruin ones enjoyment IMHO

Do you think that the shambles we'd become suddenly righted itself the moment Rahic left the building? The atmosphere in the club must have been toxic, and that doesn't change overnight. The disastrous January transfer window and Hopkin's poor decision-making in January was not down to Rahic, but prolonged the agony.
It's hard to imagine how much of a culture shock it must have been for Riley, moving from being cosseted at Man U and quickly discovering that he'd walked blindly into a horror movie. It's not really surprising that his initial form was poor, given what was going on around him early last season. Then he got frozen out by Hopkin and wasn't given a chance to prove himself.
I've no idea whether he's good enough, but I think he deserves cutting a bit more slack by supporters than some of the other shirkers, because, despite his age, he is very inexperienced.
Akpan, however, can do one. Never seen such a waste of talent due to lack of effort.
