Probably why they have been trained for it for the last 5 weeks

Only need a couple of soft home games and even then just narrow victories, in the first two rounds of the FA cup, and then draw Manchester United at home. ;) Or more likely Yeovil away!!!!

We look in much better shape than last summer, though I think we're still a couple of quality players short.

Pre season predictions rarely bear out. Most peoples predictions for the league table will be 80% similar, but the season never really pans out that way. Similarly, we could guess which players will perform well and which wont, but there are always surprises. We'll only really know once we get going.

Our attack looks a threat l, but my worry is that our midfield wont be strong enough to give them quality service.

It seems like most of our preseason goals have come from Penalties. The lack of open play goals might be a worry.

I think you'll find that Bowyer likes to play 4-3-3 when we are playing a side we should be able to beat so we should see that a lot at home. But he also has a record of playing a few other formations such as 5-3-2 and 4-1-4-1 and even 4-4-2 occasionally. I think you might see these more away from home and in tougher home games. Depending on who is injured, suspended or just not playing well, I suspect we are going to see lots of formations this season and City fans are going to get an education in tactics. Let's just hope the players understand what's going on!

Trained at it or not, Doyle is not the player needed to play that system....... you’ve been saying this yourself for weeks. Remember constantly telling us he’s a penalty box player, and not someone who can cut in from either channel or behind a front-two?

    You’re contradicting yourself....... AGAIN

My thoughts are the defence will be much improved, Donaldson, Vaughan and Scannel should be stand out players in L2. Like most, it’s the midfield that I’m not sure about but we have dropped down a level so what we have ‘should’ be better than last season... that should n’t be too hard a task!
Will we create enough? It might take a handful of games before we see our best side but I’m optimistic and happy that a manager has recruited players for his plan. Hopefully a couple of loanees will set us up nicely.

Your a Blxxdy expert at twisting things aren’t you 433 as a system along with others is something that will have been worked on this pre season it doesn’t have to include Doyle if he doesn’t fit into the system now go and find that empty room where you can argue away

Doyle looks to have been played behind the forwards against Liverpool and Rochdale, so I’m wondering whether this was just a way of giving all players game time, or whether we might see Vaughan and Donaldson playing as a front 2, with Doyle operating behind them. Maybe there could be a 4-4-2 diamond/4-3-1-2? This obviously depends on whether Doyle stays.

If Doyle was not to start, with Vaughan and Donaldson up front, I think the rest of the team would suit an old fashioned, standard 4-4-2. I’m not so sure who could be on the left of midfield, but Scannell must stay on the right as I think he looks stronger on that side. Wood has played on the left of midfield in friendlies when was praised for his crossing recently, so it could be Wood playing there? Otherwise, there is Gibson who has played there in the past and potentially, Ismail could operate there, rather than on the right as he has previously favoured.

Like others have mentioned, I would prefer if we could get a new ball winning midfielder signed. Otherwise, let’s just hope we have a player here already who can adapt to that role next season.

Not being there yesterday I didn’t see how they played but Simon Parker described Doyle as playing of Vaughan and Donaldson rather than behind them if they do the running and the physical work I am sure he will put them away.

Having paired Clayton Donaldson and new skipper James Vaughan together against Wigan, he opted to add Eoin Doyle to the mix operating just off the other two.
For Doyle, it must feel a long overdue luxury to have some support; others willing to share the burden physically and give him someone to play off.

Agreed. From what I saw last season, I’d like to get him off the wage bill as he’s supposed to be a high earner. That being said, last season is in the past so there could be some surprises from players who we were frustrated by last season.

The guy who sits in front of me refers to Akpan as “Hopeless Akpan” so it could be difficult for Akpan to win him over.

That’s from the official Bradford City social media pages. I’m going with 4-4-2 diamond from this picture as I wouldn’t expect 2 natural centre forwards in Vaughan and Donaldson to be pushed out onto the left and right, to make way for Doyle. I think Doyle is operating behind a front 2.

He just refuses to admit he’s wrong. Fact is, Doyle played behind the front two, a position where Park consistently said he shouldn’t play as he needs to be closer to the penalty spot. He’s not the man for that position...... but because I said it, Park will argue against me until the cows come home.

Talk about frustrating you keep on arguing about something we don’t disagree on I have constantly said played in his rightful position off another forward or two Doyle will score goals we both agree he does not suit playing deep. In the post in question Parker said in his match report he played off Vaughan and Donaldson. So what the hell is your gripe

It’s absolutely bizarre that you would spend a huge amount of the budget on two quality strikers and not compliment them with a decent midfield. Bad mistake. A recipe for frustrated strikers and fans.

I don't know where Scannel fits into a diamond.
    I'd prefer some width.
