But every employer has an obligation towards inclusion. There's a huge 'pride' movement - take a look on LinkedIN and see how many logos now embrace the rainbow colour theme. I don't think there's anything unique about it being a football club thing. I'm pretty sure any employee in the company I work for would be terminated for posting the same thing. On that basis, people have to be VERY careful about what they post in public. Some of that is just common sense, but I'm not even talking about obviously extreme views. People are losing their jobs and being vilified because of 'jokes'. the intent to offend seems Irrelevnt these days - its all about the offence thats taken. I worry about where its all leading tbh.

I'm not saying that at all. I agree that having a different viewpoint isn't seen as an attack. That to me is freedom of speech. However at the same time a different viewpoint doesn't equal fake news. I also think we need to be careful when we say everyone is coming across as offended. Yes I agree sometimes people decide that someone is offended before actually checking with that actual person and PC has gone too far. However I think also what is happening, is that a lot of behaviour has gone unchecked for ages, and people now feel safe to challenge comments and behaviour. Some people now find out they are offending people, think its something new and people are now soft, whereas the reality is they have always offended that person but society didn't allow them to complain until now

We have lots of rights but we don't have a right not to be offended.

It'll become self evident in this thread. My guess - there won't be a lengthy, constructive, open and honest exchange of views where people might challenge each other and learn something. The thread will be locked to prevent offence being taken over a sensitive issue....

All well and good but in his role he should maybe be a little bit more discreet in what he posts baring in mind who he will be working with and the community within. Bit of a dumb thing to do imo. Have your beliefs but, especially on social media, be a bit more savvy.

my own take on it: I couldn't care less what he has to say on the Burka. Whether we agree with his stance or not (I personally don't) he's allowed his opinion on the subject.

What I do object to is this comment here:

"alerting the Telegraph & Argus to posts he has shared over the last few months.Several make reference to banning the Burka from Britain, while others claim that Muslims should 'adhere to our laws' and leave if they don't like it"

As soon as you start making negative generalisations about entire groups of people whether it's race, religion, sexuality or gender you're on very dodgy ground. If Naz Shah (which I'm sure she does) made similar generalisations on Christians or white people I'm not sure half the people on this thread would be such big advocates for freedom of speech. Words come with a consequence and the right course of action was taken.

I don't necessarily see how a facebook post is going to prevent Muslim girls from playing football, unless he is going around telling children or the footballers that their families ought to be locked up.

I also don't think we should just assume that all Muslim women are in favor of the burqa either. The manufacturing or sale of the burqa is illegal in Morocco for example, some Islamic scholars also argue that it's a cultural invention, not a religious garment.

I can understand why the club don't want anything to do with this purely on publicity grounds though. In the world we live in it's sometimes easier to just stay quiet and avoid the wrath of the mob.

    Why wouldn't they?

A man, in a position of authority and responsibility, has expressed anti-Muslim views. I don't see how it is tenable for him to perform that role.

I find myself in two minds on this subject. I object to the Burka being worn, in my view it is sexist and oppressive to women, and I know ppl will say it is part of their Asian culture, but it is wrong and we should not support this practice.

On the other hand having somebody in post who has views that are divisive and not inclusive is a problem. As no doubt we are trying to include all sections of society. Recruitment was lax in this instance.

Pretty sure you won't see many burkas on a football pitch.

Your whole post is virtue signalling guff.

Agree with that but shouldn’t we be able to disagree with something without the fear of losing employment? I’m guessing the person in question wasn’t going to go around ripping off burkhas everytime he saw one at his place of employment. Fear of having to surpress your virws because they don’t conform to the views of others at the time has been a problem for centuries.

Done considered them banned. But best not tell them or else they'll get offended too.
