It’s tough to have a go at him. His agent is doing exactly what he should be doing and getting the best deal which obviously benefits himself as well. I think Vaughan would have been good for us but cruelly maybe I’m secretly wishing his injuries reoccur. How childish of me I know

Some of those eleven were penalties though. Maybe in different set up he will have more success but i wouldn't be disappointed in the slightest if he left. Plenty of other strikers out there to take a look at in the coming weeks if Doyle goes and Vaughan goes elsewhere.

Are there plenty of other strikers out there, available on free transfers, not demanding huge wages, who could potentially bring a similar level of experience and goalscoring prowess (if only in certain seasons)?

I'm not sure there are that many.

    At all.

I’m used to getting blame for everything but not sure how you’ve managed to quote me when it wasn’t me that wrote it.

Didn’t Stuart do this when he rejoined us following Parkinson joining Bolton?

As someone else said though, in this day and age, does it require a ‘wet’ signature or cannot be done electronically?

You’re joking aren’t you? Faithful is determined to get me banned, so he and Fordy are probably in it together. Trying to quote me so they can blame me for starting another argument

We all know how this works. Vaughan and his agent have been blowing us kisses, secured the best deal we could afford, then made themselves unavailable whilst they think about it, but making sure we are in no doubt the deal is more or less a done deal. Then went out and about in LG1, to see if there are any takers. I doubt he would have said to the club that is what they would be doing because GB would have thrown the deal in the bin. Yes of course Vaughan has every right to go and get himself the best possible deal, but be honest. GB has stated categorically that under no circumstances are we having players who do not want to sweat and give there all for this club. My guess is that this deal is well and truly in the bin now the club know about Tranmere.

Vaughan is just trying to secure the best deal - it is a short career is football so he wants to make as much hay as possible so I can understand that.

Nothing to say that he wouldn't sweat blood and tears if he ended up signing for us for more money.

Obviously he wants the best deal who doesn’t . However, my concern is about honesty and integrity. I doubt he told the club that he would be looking elsewhere for a better offer? I think if he had, we would have been pursuing other candidates. It’s ‘I want to keep all my options open and don’t mind giving a different message to the club who has made me a solid offer’ that I have a problem with. Clubs are important not just players in making sure we get the best players we can.

I MORE than get your point, on this. However - We don't know 'for sure', what was 'said'.
IF INDEED a deal was agreed 'in principle' - Then a bullet dodged, for me.

Whatever the circumstances ... City have a budget, and we move on to plan 'B' ....... ;)

With all due respect - Julian Rhodes and Gary Bowyer have been around the game long enough to understand the basic fundamentals of negotiation.

There is no such thing as a gentlemans agreement in football. He isn't our player until he signs on the dotted line and he can do pretty much anything eh wants until then...

We have no idea what was said perhaps he was offered a deal and went away to consider it amongst others. It’s not a snub to our club it’s football

Of course they knew, but the leaks coming out was that it was all but there. I am hoping that we have continued with our search for a good striker. In my view it was always a bit of a gamble as his last couple of seasons have been poor. Yes I know he might have recovered his form in lg2, but a bit of a gamble. I would be more than happy for a young up and coming striker.

It is interesting that those 'leaks' coming out that the deal was all but done seemed to dry up almost as soon as the goalkeeping coach was announced. Maybe a conspiracy theory too far, but what if James Vaughan has never been in Bowyer's plans and all this boils down to is someone at the club with lose lips overheard the name Vaughan being mentioned and put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5?

It's another reason why early business in the window is important. Things change and you have to be able to adapt- the more time you have, the more options and a stronger negotiating position you have.

I was really keen on the idea of Vaughan coming in. But I'm confident our plan B, if its needed, will also be solid.
