No you didn't. You said Akinfenwa was "more productive than any of our forwards". Quite simply, you're wrong.

Yeah, I got that mate and I’m not disagreeing with you. Just trying to understand how anyone could see a team finish top and the dispute they were a top3 squad. Makes no sense, unless he wasn’t typing what he meant.

If not the budget, perhaps he’s saying that ‘on paper’ they didn’t have a top3 squad, but good management, coaching etc, made them perform better than anticipated?

I really don’t know why else he’d argue with the facts in front of him.

Fair enough but what relevance has it got to the transfer rumour thread?

No I didn’t what? What the bleeding hell are you banging on about now?

Yes, I did say Akinfenwa was more productive than any of our forwards this season. You then provided stats to dispel that. I countered by saying that stats don’t paint the picture as they showed Doyle’s penalties and provided stats from a different source.

You then claimed I was trying to fudge them to argue my point. I disputed this and explained where those stats came from and why I believe they showed Akinfenwa had outperformed from open play.

Now you’re ignoring all of that to go back to my initial point. I stand by my point. In my view, Akinfenwa with his 7-8 goals and 7 assists from open play, was more effective than Doyle and his 7 goals and 5 assists from open play.

And he probably didn't play as many games as Doyle either.

From my view it looked like he was saying that on paper Luton never had a top three squad even though they finished top. I liken it to what people were saying about, the comments about us having a talented squad that should have no chance of going down, exactly what Darragh MacAnthony was alluding to after the game at Valley Parade. If he had seen all our games he wouldn't have made that comment. Its like what we were talking about the other day about teams with momentum and good structure going from non league to league 2 and then doing well in league 2. Luton have done the same thing, i can see both Leyton Orient and Salford finishing top half of the table next season with this same narrative.

    Ok, you win.

Akinfenwas 7 goals were more productive than Doyle's 11 goals.

Can we leave it now please as unless we are interested in signing Akinfenwa it contributes nothing to the thread.

It’s true that he didn’t play as many games as Doyle. But NM is correct that if you go simply by goals per minute ratio, Doyle has the better record. His 11 goals came at an average of 1 every 310mins, as opposed to Akinfenwa’s 8(?) coming at an average of 1 every 321mins (BBC) or every 352mins (Transfermarkt).

What they don’t reflect are the number of penalties scored, reducing the number of goals Doyle scored from open play.

No idea. Didn’t really read it as I’m not arsed. Want to forget last season ever happened. The night sweats haven’t stopped yet.

Don't believe for one minute it's as quiet as Parker says in today's t&a. The players who want out (I think Doyle, O'Connor, Akpan, Scannell) will have already been talking to clubs and lining up moves, sure no contact may have been made between clubs yet but its still very early.

The clubs that might be interested in signing said players have got time on their hands - it isn't like they are likely to lose out to another club by waiting a while longer. I'd be surprised if any of them sign for another club until after July's wages have been paid by us.

How did they have better players than Barnsley, Sunderland and Charlton?

They had a hard working, inexpensive, very attacking side that performed better than any other team. But the resources and players available to them are nothing like those other sides.

To suggest they had a better squad really does their achievement no justice at all.

Perhaps your opinion is based on their performance, not their squad.

Have you seen the Sunderland squad? Its average at best aside from 2 or 3.

That Luton side was not inexpensive either, they spent good money on transfer fees and wages both this season and last. Both fullbacks are wanted by championship sides, one of whom has a 7m pricetag, which doesn't arise from mere hard work.

There's probably not much to choose from between Luton, Barnsley and Charlton, all have an abundance of talent.

One of their full backs is very, very good, and what you say is true - except with Sunderland. I disagree with you there.

I don't have any issue with what you're saying, but Luton for me have the fifth or sixth best squad, but possibly a more talent-concentrated first xi. Even then I'm not sure I'd say top three.

Its those that are saying because they finished top, they must be top three that makes no sense to me. Lazy analysis.

They finished 3,6 and 9 points ahead of Barnsley, Charlton and Sunderland. I'd say that proves that over the course of last season, the players Luton had performed better. Sure, they may not have had the resources or strength in depth of the likes of Sunderland but so what? I mean, where did it get Sunderland? Remind me what division they are playing in next season again?

Over a full season the table does not lie, as we know unfortunately, we heard it time and time again chairmen, managers, coaches, and players saying the quality Bradford City have in their squad Bradford City would pull clear, unfortunately as fans watching game after game (take that little run out before Christmas) and most were saying we were in a dog fight for league one survival.
