Anton McElhone is listed as assistant manager, the same title as Andy Todd whilst Martin Drury is assistant coach on the club website.

 

Sorry but there's no nicey nicey where we are headed ? we need to get nasty and again as much as Evans is the antithesis of what I ever expected for this club its darn well needed. It is not about "bullying" it is about passion and gaining "an edge on opponents" even before a ball is kicked and then during a game. How many times has Evans out done us just by winding everyone up !? Even Parky fell foul of it. Take the Peterborough game on Saturday come hook or by crook Evans would have found a way to win that game - despite the players !; and why because he is already in the heads of the Peterborough players. That would have immediately given the whole place the necessary lift for the next 10 games and some belief. There's no comparison between Evans and Bowyer; you cannot argue with the statistics if you bothered to do a bit of research first !?.

We'll see what Bowyer can effect in his 11 game audition ? But I have three things that he needs to show me minimum. And its really basic stuff; and he gets a free hit; because he'll take no blame for the inevitable relegation. So
1. He needs to organise us defensively and make us harder to beat - "a la Parky" you might say.
2. He's got a quarter of a season to effect a "Bowyer style of play" no matter whether he has square pegs in round holes he needs to show us how a Gary Bowyer team would play ?. So it might mean sticking Patrick up top alongside Doyle and or converting a midfielder/defender into a make shift target man if needed. Get Connor Wood down the left as makeshift winger ?. He's worked with footballers there not just born to play one position are they ? (although it seems like it sometimes) Lets see what Bowyers idea's are - its his audition.
3. By the time we arrive at Scunthorpe A we should be relegated; but I need to see that in the 9 previous games we have not been cut adrift from the 5th bottom club. We are down 6pts as it stands so I dont want to see that extend to 10-12pts.

If Bowyer delivers 1-2-3 for me we can be relegated and he would get a chance in League 2. If not then Rhodes needs to swallow his pride and call Evans because I'll warn you now. League 2 is effectively a 48 team league !. League 2 and the National League are indistinguishable; and we will need to get players in who can get down right nasty with the best of them to kick our way out. Otherwise I fear come May 2020 we will be staring well and truly into the Abyss.

 

The way you talk he is the second coming he had loads of money at the Posh and blobbed. There are other better ways to motivate. I don’t ever want Evans at this club especially with his history at this club

But Grayson had one hand tied behind his back. He was appointed as Head Coach working to He Who Knows Football, so we would never know what he could have done if he had genuinely been appointed manager.

 

Probably unpopular on here but if he had stayed I am sure he would have done a good job. He took over a badly demotivated team and because of the weather was unable to get out on the teaing pitch for weeks.

Wow looks like Bowyer will have to be a miracle worker, yes he's basically got a quarter of the season left, but we must win 3 of those 11 to even get out of the bottom 4 and hope the ones above us don't get results or it might take 8/9 points to clear the relegation places.

 

I'd say the same with regards Stuart staying, he got us into that mess (some mess in top 6 nearly all season) if your saying Simon Grayson should have had time the same has to apply to Stuart surely ?.

 

Where is the evidence that Evans has had success in quickly turning around a failing squad? It's not his forte. He likes to bring in a shed load of his own players, including loads of strikers, not motivate a dispirited bunch, most of whom he wouldn't have signed if he'd been in charge earlier.
A sergeant major type is not what we need now. We need someone to get the defence organised better - Todd is a specialist at this, apparently - and a motivator who can work out how best to turn a set of individuals into a functioning team. Hopefully Bowyer is that man.
Winding up and frustrating the opposition, Evans-style, wouldn't keep us up. And I don't want to watch my team doing that.

 

I remember Ian Bowyer playing well for Manchester City at Roker Park. I remember him as a useful member of Forest's squad before he signed for Sunderland and after he left Sunderland and returned to The City Ground. Unfortunately he was terrible for us but that was the magic that top managers like Clough had, he could make fairly good players into so much more.
As for Gary Bowyer I like him. Nothing flash, not a shouty man; but a steady someone who just might keep you up. If he doesn't there aren't many who'd make a better attempt at bouncing straight back up. He is, I believe, a far better choice than Evans or Nolan.

Since Stuart, no competent manager has enjoyed a Summer transfer window in which to rebuild.

I'm very concerned that this may continue given Bowyer's short contract.

 

Just listened to both interviews on ifollow and whilst talk is cheap he comes across very well and I think we might be in good hands, maybe not enough to save us this season but longer term
