Is this the most confused thread ever. The development squad versus prostate problems. Brilliant in its own way.

I was only discussing the forwards; it's my opinion we have far too many who offer far too little.

Brunker "played" and "tried" but was about as dangerous as mobile phone radiation.

Brunker made a difference and I think he will do well next season and without any doubt he helped Wyke

I think he benefited from being a breath of exuberant fresh air in the worst period of form in a long, long time.

Next season, if we aren't the pits, he will find patience in short supply.

Of course, if he starts scoring, it's a different kettle of fish; but I've no doubt Grayson is well aware he needs better than Brunker, even if he could be fourth or fifth choice given his good attitude.

Not just about good attitude. He won most things in the air has a lot of pace for a big man and reasonable with the ball as well. Of course he has a lot to work on and your right he will be judged by if he can score goals. We will see

When Grayson said he had a couple of things to sort out in the talks with the chairman I think he's staying. If he wasn't staying why would he need to sort out one or two things.

I'm not really sure if I think Grayson is staying or not...

I don't really see why they would wait until just slightly after the last game to make an extension announcement; you can make those anytime. It feels like prime 'see you later' timescale.

You also might hint at staying, even if you couldn't confirm it for definite. To not say anything about the situation other than that the club needs a clear out and missed out on it's objectives also doesn't sound too promising.

While I wouldn't be that shocked if he signed for a further 12 months, I'm probably leaning to him leaving on that back of that interview.

I don't want him to stay, I understand Tawheed's suggestion that SG staying is a postitive thing because the owners must have given him a budget that he feels would achieve (hopefully) promotion. Others have chosen to re-write history with selective results, when everybody bleedin knows from the Rupp comments on SmC's sacking that Grayson was brought in to ensure a top 6 finish. He failed, big time, but is blame free, pull the other one, and the football was absolutely garbage too.

He gets a pass from me for the football being garbage, because direct football can be fun to watch if you've got the right players dominating the right positions.

Unfortunately, the owners reckoned all they needed to do to turn around our god awful form was bring in 'a' manager with experience.

    Cool story.

Now can you make NKP and Kilgallon win their aerial battles, have Brunker nodding in a few lofted diagonal balls, and have Gilliead deliver his share of long range strikes? No? How very surprising!

Wrong players for the wrong manager.

Said that weeks ago, so what was the point in bringing him in to ensure a top 6 finish? It was a massive FU, like putting PP in charge of Crewe and it caused me to lose all faith in the owners.

    Couldn't agree more.

It highlighted a serious lack of understanding of the game.

I know the fans wanted Grayson, and I understood why, but it was never a good fit with those players who had trained all season to play a certain way.

In my opinion Grayson won’t be here due to the comment of DNA. I have said previously regarding the youth setup that it’s all about possession with and pressing with out. Plus the owners view of youth makes Grayson a total no no. Tough summer for the owners

    Aye.

They want us to know they've "learned from their mistakes" without actually telling us which mistakes they feel they've made...

Was sacking Stuart a mistake? Hiring Grayson? What kind of manager will they appoint next? What direction are we going in? Was the footballing style a mistake? Was youth a mistake? Is the development squad a mistake? Was Abbott as head coach a mistake? Is the head coach role itself a mistake? Is it a mistake not to plough all resources into a first team of 25 or so players? Was the wage budget a mistake? Or just the individual wage policy? Were the mistakes behind-the-scenes? Was being hands on the mistake? Was pissing off the fans the key mistake? Which mistakes precisely do they believe pissed off the fans? Was stating expectations and making promises a mistake? Was the cheap season tickets a mistake? Were the deadlines a mistake?

You could question anything at any club, we're no different; but I don't really know now what direction the owners wish to go in? If it's youth and resale value (still), what mistakes exactly did we learn? If it's putting all the power back in the hands of the manager, what did we learn about the previous direction, and how far will we go to rectify such mistakes?

Whether we extend Grayson's deal or not, there are hundreds of questions. Grayson stays, the set up goes to Hell, because he's not the manager, never was, and never will be. Grayson goes, the next appointment suddenly becomes incredibly interesting in terms of style, confidence in young players, ability to coach, and perhaps more crucially, overall ability to identify credible targets that improve us for the season ahead, not potentially improving us five seasons ahead. The question is also, why Grayson anyway if we're just going to plough ahead with the policies from the last two seasons?

While some people are just happy to hear "we've learned from our mistakes" and can then wipe the sweat from their eyebrows, I'm more puzzled than ever.

What are we doing, what are we trying to achieve, how, and with who?

No, that was @Park bantam@Park bantam and @JonButterfield@JonButterfield . They both made comments that it’s easier to play good football with better budgets.

But in response to @Rogered Tart’s comment “
    Good teams will out play you football wise just like Blackburn and Wigan have this season. no coincidence they have gone up playing the best football in the division”, you responded with;

So, to clarify, my point was to all 3 of you that smaller budgets don’t stop you playing good football. As the original comment suggested, better footballing sides tend to get promoted instead of cloggers and a smaller budget doesn’t stop you playing the right way.

Today's T&A article suggests to me he is staying. Grayson says a few bits and bobs to be talked about. Surely if he was leaving next week there would be nothing else to sort out?
