Jones to Cambridge (loan)

Good luck to the lad, not his fault but he’s really injured prone and I’m not sure he’ll even not be. But I wish him all the best.

 

I know what you mean. When he first signed he looked really sharp and scored regularly. But I think we have to factor in that at the start of last season Wyke was injured so SM kept playing Jones as a lone target man. He was clueless at that - he's a forward-facing fox in the box or wide striker, not a back to goal, hold it up player. Then he got injured. So we haven't seen him in his natural role for ages.

 

that's not a bad scoring rate either.

 

I liked him given his goals/game record, obviously his injury record is too poor though so the right move for all.

 

Might not of. He could stay here get no game time and struggle to get a contract anywhere or it will be less. He gets to play games and put himself in shop window.

His record at vale suggests he is good enough at this level. Injuries plus possibly the Edin factor may mean we have missed out on a decent player i suspect he could do a Morris on us and be decent. Good move for him Shame really I hoped he'd be a good one!

 

He has gone on loan rather than transfer so I’m guessing we are footing a big wedge of his wages. If we were not paying anything he would have gone on a free transfer, and if it was just a small portion again he would have gone on a free and we would have coughed up in one go. The only reason I can see for a loan is that we are paying a substational portion of his wages and we didn’t want to pay it up front incase he gets injured again which if he is on loan would allow us to claim on the insurance to pay him.

Never saw anything in him as a striker. The only thing giving me hope was the PV record, 9 goals in 19 games! Maybe it was just a freak run as his career total record is nowt special. Anyway.......at 25 next and with hardly any appearances for yonks, I sincerely hope he can get his career going again at Cambridge.

 

He was never the same after that...

 

Jones is a decent striker at this level. Sadly, being asked to play an alien role and having a body made of glass prevented us seeing the best of him. His goals per minute ratio is very good, especially if you take out the games where he was badly managed and asked to play a role he was not capable of playing.
