Doyle would do alot better if he actually looked for the ball and jumped rather than the defender amount a times he watches the defender rather than the ball is alarming. I played centre half for a good few years in Saturday and sunday leagues I reckon I could have him in my pocket the way he plays.

 

Don't play hoofball to him, and actually give him some decent service in the box. That'd be my advice, but the team probably isn't capable, I'll say what I said a week or two ago when people singled O'Connor out, it's pointless singling individual players out when it's such a crap team with no confidence left in it.

 

C'mon M8 don't be like that.

 

lt's the same old City thing! Only managing to succeed in converting a recognised goalscorer into an ineffective non-scorer! Both Doyle and Miller contributed absolutely zilch today. But in fairness to Doyle he's totally unsuited to the way he's being asked to play.

Yeah playing a role his unaccustomed to, however fooked up most of the chances that have come his way. In my opinion as poor as the rest or them simply not good enough

Just like McLean, Doyle has looked useless; just like McLean, he's also been very poorly used.

Just an awful signing representative of all that is wrong with City - he's meant to have replaced Wyke, but is absolutely nothing like Wyke. Has none of his strength, fight, or ruggedness. Watching him compete for headers is embarrassing. What's the point? It's a no contest every time.

The lad isn't a worker, a battler, or anything else along those lines.

He scored a decent number goals for Oldham on loan last season after categorically proving he isn't Championship level at Cardiff and Preston, notably while Oldham were a terrible side who got relegated from League One. He scored goals because he played alongside Craig Davies, a physical, aggressive lump of a player. It wasn't a great strike partnership, and would never achieve much, hence relegation - but at least it gave them a chance of staying up.

Despite this, we seem to have pinned our hopes on Doyle achieving more than yet another relegation scrap for some bizarre reason, without so much as gifting him an ugly-as-sin strike partner with little more than brute strength as an attribute.

Quite WHY we've signed him, I have no idea.

We've sold a player with actual ability, goalscoring nous, AND physical presence, and replaced him with a guy who thrives in the space provided by a physical distraction. Only there isn't a physical distraction.

GENIUS.

Just like Akpan, Doyle will be relegated again. Perhaps we shouldn't be making our marquee signings guys who are overly used to losing games, don't really care, and are recently familiar with getting relegated? Maybe we should try avoiding journeymen who we know for absolutely certain can't compete at the level we're meant to be striving for, and who regularly find themselves looking for new clubs?

 

What we need is a squad without journeymen, loanee's, kids and ooc's..........??
Easy this recruitment lark then.....??

 

And it has to be cheap.

 

Doyle is a big disappointment but he isn't the first player we have turned into mediocrity and probably won't be the last.

 

When your priority is to make money, this is the team you end up with. It is bad enough trying to put a squad together to be able to compete, but to do it without a plan of the type of players you are going to need and the free flowing attractive football you have stated you want, to then do it on the cheap is just crazy. Plus by someone who has no experience of planning and putting a squad together.

It is no good berating the players for not being able to do what is needed, they are what they are, all decent players in their own right. Football is a team game with each component fitting together. Then you throw in lots of young players into the mix and they are supposed to cover injuries. Recipe for disaster and that is Rahic and Rupp legacy.

I agree with what you say,if you recruit players on the basis you will develop them and sell them for a profit,what happens when the players turn out to be flops? You don't make money,you lose games,drop down the league's and your new low status means these young aspiring footballers don't want to sign for you!

First and foremost you have to sign players who have genuine potential to win you games!
